Votto is choked up on the bat way ahead in the count. He just wanted his on base streak to continue.

Did you photoshop that picture to add color?

you guys know dusty would totally start haren in game 2 of the nlds, right?

He's been there before, dude. It's just like fishing. You don't want to go into a big bass tournament with a new rod.

Today's game thread isn't up yet, so I'll put the stat here.

With today's starter being a rookie, that marks a record 60 straight games that the Reds have started a rookie, going back to the day they traded away Mike Leake.

Man, the NLDS has the potential to be great all around. Cubs-Cardinals and Mets-Dodgers would be great series.

It's not looking as likely now as it did last week, but I'm really curious how the TV schedule would shake out for the LDS day when all 4 series are being played if the matchups were:

Mets/Dodgers

Cubs/Cardinals

Royals/Yankees

Rangers/Blue Jays

That's a lot of big markets and big rivalries.

I would assume the Rangers/Blue Jays would be the early game and I guess the Mets/Dodgers would be the last game just because the Dodgers are Pacific Time (but then again they're playing an Eastern Time team in a large market). Yankees are always a huge draw and I don't know if they ever don't play the prime time slot, but Cubs/Cardinals has never happened before in the postseason...

Still a lot up in the air with the ALDS matchups. The Rangers could drop the division to the Angels, and the Royals are only 1 game out of the top record in the AL(although Rangers/Jays probably has similar low TV appeal). The other good news is that the Dodgers are the only west coast team guaranteed a LDS spot, so there's fewer logistical obstacles forcing a Cubs/Cardinals series to day baseball.

royals are two games behind the jays in the loss column and toronto has the tiebreaker advantage

i just can't imagine a cubs playoff game nowadays as a day game

if there's one team that could knock them out of prime time, tho, it's probably the yankees

If I remember correctly, Yankees-RedSox in 2003 had at least one of their games in the ALCS the late afternoon game while Cubs-Marlins was primetime. And that was a non weekend game.

I believe in the 3 playoffs the Cubs have played since 2003, there has only been 1 pure day game (Game 5 against the Marlins), 1 late afternoon game (Game 4 against the Braves), and 2 very early evening games (Game 3 against the Diamondbacks and Game 1 against the Dodgers). The rest have been primetime or west coast primetime.

it's crazy how i hardly remember game 5 of the nlcs

i have a vague memory of beckett striking sammy out on like a 100mph fastball in a big spot...or maybe zambrano throwing a 99 mph fastball or something. that ring a bell?
