Hat tip to Ned Yost tonight. Good thing he left his best pitcher on the bench in the last three innings.

speaking of sammy earlier

look at that [expletive] ball land on that camera shed!! bring back steroids!

That video doesn't show the Lofton shudder. That was my favorite part.

That scene on waveland... Damn.

Has the the new construction taken waveland out of play now? Or the scoreboard.

Trust me, when we get that far there will be chaos in Wrigleyville regardless of any renovations.

It's possible, but you have to hit the absolute [expletive] out of one and avoid the board. I don't think anyone did it this season - maybe once. Can't remember for sure

This site seems to indicate that balls are still going out in batting practice, albeit at a significantly reduced rate from previous years (I think the stats listed are only balls he caught though)

was about to ask how the hell we had so many after sammy was gone in 05...then i remembered dlee decided he was pujols for a year

That's 13 walkoff wins for the Cubs this year, the most in franchise history. The previous high was 11 in a season, done four times - 1967, 1969, 1984, 1996.

That was the first walkoff hr in a 1-0 game by a pinch hitter in extras in mlb history.

Sounds like a line from Major League.

how can that even be

theory:

0-0 extras are rare, although they may have been more common in the dead ball era. 0-0 extras that end in HR would therefore be even more rare. The only people that could hit HR during the dead ball era were starter caliber players, and good players didn't get rest days to come in late and pinch hit.

Wasn't that Little Big League that had the announcer that threw out ridiculous stats like that?

Uecker was just a drunken slob in Major League who sobered up when the Indians did well.

Edit: found some quotes:

Last year though, he was sixth in the American League in hitting right-handers he was facing for the first time...after the seventh inning...at home!

An interesting side note: that's the 14th one-run game for the Tigers already this season, tops for any team north of the Mason-Dixon Line, whose home games are not played in a dome.

Lou, by the way, has hit .416 lifetime versus Hanley in the month of September in even years, so that certainly bodes well for this at-bat
