Makes me sad that this badass team's postseason aspirations are gonna come down to a one game play-in. Although it's certainly better than the old system wherein we might have been completely on the outside looking in.

If you don't want the wild card, win your division. If you can't win your division, don't bitch about your fate.

Oh please. We'd be leading 4 other divisions. Arbitrarily clumping teams together will cost one of these NL Central teams dearly. It's plenty fair to complain.

Jersey just has a weird fixation on not complaining if you don't have the best record.

And it'd be a shame if this were a hundred and five game division winning monster and their season came down to a best of five. That's just the baseball playoffs.

It was a shame when the 08 team's season was defined by three shitty games in most people's eyes.

The fact that it takes one game vs three doesn't really change much in terms of potential "injustice," if you can call it that.

That's an interesting hypothetical. You might have been talking about the old old system (pre-any wild card), but given how we're playing now, would you rather have the current set up which pretty much guarantees a one game playoff, or just have one wild card team get in and be forced to overtake Pittsburgh by the end of the year?

I said it in the positivity thread too, but...

The Cubs are now closer to catching the Cards for the division than they are to losing the playoff spot they have.

It's also not fair to the Cardinals that they have to get swept by the Cubs in the division series instead of getting to play the Mets or Dodgers.

Grote is on the radio saying Fowler was still grimacing in pain the rest of the game even though he stayed in

can't a trainer usually identify a broken bone in the hand right away?

Didn't the Cubs keep saying that Olt was day-to-day until they finally discovered he had a broken bone in his hand?

That's because they were waiting to call Bryant up.

Yeah, IIRC, Olt got hurt on a Sunday and we'd get the extra year on Bryant the following Friday. We had an off day either Mon or Thu so they dealt with an injured Olt for three games.

i need to see this lester play everyone is bitching about

high bouncer landing between Lester & Ross, tough play, but more athletic SPs like Lohse & Greinke probably make it

i think meatball rage stemmed mostly from Lester standing there motionless

IIRC he actually had an at-bat after injuring his hand

I think the amount of butthurt here is even more amazing:

This was my favorite:

Indians tie it up off Lester in the 9th, all but guaranteeing a Rizzo or Bryant walkoff here off Zach McAllister
If/when the Cubs win it all, it's going to take away a lot of the passion I have for baseball. Right now, really the only two things I care about during a season are the Sox winning and Cubs not winning. If the Cubs win it all, I can't even picture myself following the NL anymore. The Sox winning it in 2005 took away a significant amount of my worries of Cubs winning WS/Sox not winning WS during my life. I wouldn't mind not having to deal with the Cubs winning a WS though, as I think it would be a very bad day for the Sox organization in terms of future fans.

:-)) White Sox fans. Worry about your garbage team, ya mooks. "We're only 5.5 out of the wild card!... behind five other teams..."
