And they'd only be 5 games behind the Cardinals this year.

The sad thing is, I actually had to look it up to find out the Cardinals weren't actually 84-26. Dumb on me? Probably, but, still,

wow

following a bunch of talking up and praising of the cubs, rozner said something like "and when theo thinks they're ready to compete for a world series, they'll go for it aggressively like all those other teams. THIS IS NOT THAT YEAR!!"

what a [expletive] idiot jesus

i guess they need to be on pace for 100 wins in order to qualify for that

Barry Rozner is a dude that still cares about RBI and pitcher Wins, he's completely useless

Though Bernstein's mechanical, slavish devotion to WAR is nearly as bad and lacks introspection and curiosity (like looking at peripherals ever)

Maddon just mentioned on his radio spot that Castro will be taking fielding practice at 2B and 3B. Said he's sure he'll end up playing SS at some point but it sure didn't sound like he'd be starting there any time soon. Does sound like they'll get him into the lineup against lefties. Mentioned the Sox series in that regard.

Makes sense, and with the DH having him in the lineup probably improves the defense by getting Coghlan off of 2B.

Also, in that radio spot, Maddon more or less confirmed that his top righty high leverage guys are Rondon, Grimm, and Strop.

Says Hunter's stuff is great and they just need to work on some things with him.

Has Maddon explained the rationale for Coghlan hitting third?

up until bryant started hitting again i was fine with it. Coghlan's been struggling at the plate lately so I really don't see why.

Since Soler has started to hit, I wouldnt mind going Fowler, Schwarber, Bryant, Rizzo, Soler, Montero, Coghlan, Pitcher, Russell. you still have good L/R balance there.

This way Maddon can PH for Coghlan with Denorfia against a LHP and be sure that the other manager won't put in a RHP because Rizzo is next...or at least that's how I assume it started

Although matchups matter less now that Coghlan is a 6 inning player, and replacing him with Denorfia is more tricky. So yeah, maybe Bryant should move up a bit.

That was my assumption at the outset, but given how quickly and consistently he's been pulled for Herrera when the team is ahead, my guess is that hitting him 3rd is as much about stealing another inning with Herrera in the field than anything.
