I heard a rumor about Kane for Hedman which was pretty intriguing for both sides.

Forgive me for interrupting the larger conversation here, but I don't think that's remotely intriguing for Tampa.

They seem to be hesitant to give Stamkos a Kane-like extension given their numerous young stars who will need to be paid. The idea of them trading away Hedman to acquire Kane's contract is insane, without even getting into the legal troubles.

Let me know if I should just move this to the Blackhawks offseason thread, but....

Yeah, I don't think there's any way they get near that value if a trade happens. Hedman was arguably the best defender in the Finals this year, and has 2 more years at a very reasonable price.

We have to remember that Kane is the highest paid player in hockey starting this year. In how many sports does the highest paid player have a lot of trade value (especially since Kane is not a Kershaw or Trout type)? It's pretty likely he didn't have a lot of trade value even before this happened. The teams that supposedly reached out to the Hawks after all this came out were likely looking to get him for pennies on the dollar.

Really, assuming the Hawks didn't regret those contracts right after they were signed. If they just cleared out his salary, they'd be a pretty attractive landing spot for Stamkos next offseason.

Other players would be moving in the deal as well. Presumably, the Hawks would have to take on some of Kane's Salary. The possibility of Kane and Stamkos on the same line is pretty intriguing. Hedman is very good but players like Kane don't become available very often.

I will agree though that the trade is probably just speculation.

Sorry, $10 million, 8 figures. I honestly edited that 10 seconds later and there were 3 responses. Sheesh.

I'm not sure what the going rate is on rape hush money but that seems high.

Yea I'm guessing like 1.5-3M?

I'd let Kaner rape me for $3 million. Is that gay?

Not necessarily, but it also isn't rape if you let him do it.

I wouldn't enjoy it and I would tell him no repeatedly. That should qualify.

Kane to report to camp on Friday.

Do the Hawks/NHL and Kane think that this woman's story is full of holes at this point? I am really surprised he is going to be there.

Why are you surprised? The oddest thing would be if there were not yet any charges yet Kane stayed in seclusion. It's not like this guy is reporting that Kane will be there, but rather he was pointing out how unlikely it would be for him to just be a no show without any logistical reasons to be missing.

If there were charges to come, the NHL and the Blackhawks would look real foolish.

For allowing him to show up to practice despite an ongoing investigation? Sure some will take issue with that, but it's not actually foolish to allow a guy that is under contract to show up to practice.

If you're under investigation for something it's not like you just automatically stop going to work. Then it's that much more entertaining when Green slaps the cuffs on him in the middle of practice and Briscoe has an awesome pithy comment before reading him his rights.

It is if there is an ongoing rape investigation. My point is that the Hawks/NHL/Kane must know that this will be cleared up soon.

I think that point is a stretch. He's under investigation, and has been more or less in hiding for a month. He can't stay in hiding until everything is cleared up.

Why are you thinking he's just supposed to sit in his house and not do anything while the investigation is going on? They have no idea how this going to play out, but it's not like everything is on hold until he's actually charged or suspended or something along those lines.

"Hey boss, I'm going to be calling in sick for the foreseeable future. Yeah, I'm being investigated for vehicular manslaughter, so I just can't show up. No idea when I'll be back, so have someone cover for me. PEACE."

It's a tricky situation. The NHL doesn't want to suspend him because he's the face of American hockey and he hasn't been charged with a crime. The Hawks probably can't suspend him for fear that the NHLPA would file a grievance. Both of those are probably hoping that Kane will take some sort of voluntary leave so he can avoid being asked questions that he won't answer. I doubt it has much to do with the validity of the victims story. If it was that "full of holes" they would have probably not bothered to convene a grand jury.

Not sure if this should go in this thread or the other Hawks on but report out of Buffalo says Kane is expected to be at Blackhawks training camp when it starts Friday
