How many true landing spots ARE there for Starlin, in all seriousness?

The Nats, if Desmond declines a QO, would be a possibility.

The Rockies, if they move Reyes in the offseason.

The Reds, is Suarez a guy they're high on? I honestly don't know.

The Mets, unless they have decided to just love Flores since he cried.

The Rays have a true need, Cabrera has been bad and is a FA

The White Sox maybe? But they can keep Alexei on a 10 mill team option.

The Twins, it looks like they're in serious need, unless they've got a guy thats missed the season I'm forgetting.

The Pads, who are definitely in need.

From a FA standpoint, you'll have Stephen Drew, Asdrubal Cabrera, Ian Desmond, and Jimmy Rollins.

When I started looking, I honestly thought I'd have a hard time finding options. The more I look though, the more I think he's definitely getting dealt and considering the options out there, it doesn't even have to be a complete dump.

The Nats are almost certainly going to hand SS to Turner, but yeah SS is a position people are constantly on the lookout to fill. You can even expand for people who might think Castro's skills play up better at 2B too.

Especially if they deal him in a tumultuous MI sandwich with Baez. Still think they could get a seriously good return for something like that.

If you're wanting to get rid of Castro and Baez, I think you send them in separate deals. Make sure to get a failed SP prospect (with an option) for Castro(Does Matt Moore have one left next year?), use Baez to get your Carrasco/Ross rotation stalwart. In theory those could both be the same deal, but it's more likely you're dealing with separate teams since Baez and Castro overlap as much as they do positionally.

Then who the heck would be Russell's DP partner?

Zobrist / Kendrick / Alcantara!

Beats me. This is why I'm terrible at chess.

Zobrist or Murphy next year at 2B. I'd say Kendrick, but I doubt we'd give up our 1st next year for him honestly. I think they'd want more impact to show for losing it than for him. just a guess though obviously. Unless they signed Zimmermann and just punted the draft-which also seems unlike this FO. Price won't cost one, I figure he's our top target, unless we trade for pitching and go after Heyward-who I don't see us having any issue at all giving up the pick for.

I see that, but there doesn't seem to be much smoke beyond that

I still hold out hope Cuban 2B Jose Fernandez gets off the island this winter. He's the top player who got caught last year, and one of the best on the island. Contact, lots of walks, age 27 next season, LHH, and plays 2B among other positions in Cuba.

So is there any sign on the horizon as to how changing diplomatic relations with Cubs will impact stuff like this, or is that still waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the line?

The Sun Times said that the Yankees and Dodgers are also interested in him. I hope they put him on waivers very soon because I believe the Cubs would win waiver claims over both of them as of right now but the Cubs have the same record as Yankees and 1/2 game behind the Dodgers so that could change as soon as tomorrow.

Irony: if we keep this pace up we won't be getting Utley.

Well yeah right now he'd have to go through 25 other teams before we had a chance to claim him and it sounds like at least a couple of those teams are interested.

I also read somewhere that Utley has repeatedly told management in the past that he would invoke his no-trade clause to veto any trade, although he softened his stance slightly earlier this year.

If this is the end of the road for him, I have to assume that he'd want a chance to win. And it's not like he'd have to relocate his family.

He's already won a WS; maybe he just wants to finish his career on the same team.

This seems like a scorching hot take. He's already won a WS; maybe he just wants to finish his career on the same team.

I suppose there's something to be said for playing your entire career with one team, especially these days. But considering what the Phillies have become, that could make it more depressing. Jeter, for example, may not have gone out on one of the better Yankees teams, but at least they were kinda-sorta contending until the end of the season. Phillies are pretty much waiting for the clock to wind down.
