It seems almost impossible for me to imagine us outbidding the Dodgers for Price.

So does the Hamels and Price trades put the cost for a guy like Ross out of the cubs radar?

It makes me think it's going to take Javy+Underwood+Eloy which would absolutely suck.

With the cost for Hamels and Price, I think it takes the cubs out of the Ross picture unless they give a big haul for him...

The guys contract is just arbitration eligible and also still 2 more years before FA after this season.. he will cost ALOT.

Look at it soley based on FiP & K/9 lets take the factor that price/hamels have alot more playoff experience and have had "ACE" status for a while now..

Ross FiP

#12 2.78

Price FiP

#19 3.02

Hamels FiP

#31 3.23

Ross K/9

#10 9.66

Price K/9

#27 8.51

Hamels K/9

#12 9.58

I mean Ross is arguably the best value of these 3 guys because he hasn't landed a big contract yet.. reminds me a lot of Arrieta... in the sense that he is one of the elite pitchers but isnt getting elite "hype" yet.

I agree... I love Javy's upside but.. to think about it long term

2016 Rotation

Price

Arrieta

Lester

Ross

Hammel/Hendricks?

I mean thats pretty damn good

Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets that the full hall includes Norris, Jairo Labourt, and Matt Boyd for Price.

I'm not familiar with the Jays system, whats that look like for the Cubs prospects?

Tigers required pitching, of which we have none

The Cubs likely wont have to. in 2016 the Dodgers will have the following Kershaw,Wood,Ryu,Anderson. They aren't going to grab both Price and Greinke just to shove a low 3ERA pitcher like Ryu out the door.

The Nationals literally just did this with Tanner Roark like 5 months ago

What? Brett Anderson has pitched 117 innings this year, which happens to be the most he's pitched since 2009. The idea that his presence would preclude a Price signing is laughable.

So the flipside is that that percentage could go shooting right back up in short order if they started winning more, something trades could very much help them do.

Flipside to what? As of TODAY, nobody has a clue whether or not the Dodgers make the postseason = 2 month rental.

I agree with the larger point that the Dodgers aren't going to let Ryu or Anderson stop them from signing Price. But Roark had a 3.47 FIP and 3.84 xFIP in 2014. (compare Ryu 2.62 FIP and 3.03 xFIP). Not comparable.

There's no reason the Dodgers couldn't have Kershaw, Greinke, Price, Wood, Ryu, which would be terrifying.

Anderson is also a free agent after this season. McCarthy is the one they signed for multiple years, but he's obviously hurt.

Really hope they don't extend him so the Cubs have a shot in the offseason.

If he does get extended who does that leave this offseason?

Cueto, Gallardo, Kazmir, Kennedy, Lackey, Latos, Samardzija, Zimmerman

Still some good names out there, but a lot less sexy without price

I'd be really surprised if the Jays ended up extending Price, especially before he hits the market.

While it is kinda disappointing to see so many big names elsewhere, I can say I'm happy the Cubs didn't beat the prices paid for Hamels and Price so far.

I don't see how the Jays could possibly afford it. Between paying Tulo and having to replace Buehrle and Dickey, they'd have to jump their payroll up 20 or 30M.

They have the richest owners in baseball.

About as impossible as it is for me to imagine Price extending with LA before hitting the open market.

Does Price really want to pitch in the ALE again? I gotta figure he's going to be getting so much money from so many teams that other factors are going to play into his decision.

I gotta figure the division he plays in is somewhere around 3,542 on that other factors list.

Yeah, and he's all but declared his desire to come to the Cubs. I can't believe that he would preclude that option by signing an extension.

isnt there a 60/40 rule tho? I mean Rogers has a ton of money, but wouldnt the teams revenue limit the maximum expenditure they can do?

The flipside to your post about the Cubs playoff chances dropping so much in short order is that they still could fly right back up in short order.

That matters why? The fact still remains...one cannot definitively state the Dodgers will be in the postseason. If you can claim otherwise, let's hear it. :)

The Jays do have a lot of resources, but I think there's little chance that he doesn't test the open market.

Canadian dollar is 77 cents now, so if he asks for $30M/per, they'll have to go $39M/per, won't they?

(i'm probably in the minority when it comes to my lack of total utter desperation for adding a #1 SP, it's just kind of funny to consider)

this is impossibly dense; the hypothetical with Price added would make it a virtual certainty, and even still, i'll eat a lemon if they miss the playoffs
