I think the Hawks statement was good. By no means did they endorse Kane or support him and explained their rationale.

 

This is stupid for Kane to even be here if he's only answering hockey questions. No one gives a [expletive] about what kind of hockey shape he is in or how it feels to see his teammates after the summer.

 

I didn't expect him to even slightly answer questions relating to that situation. He said more than I expected. It does him no good to answer anything about anything.

This entire press conference has been pointless and awful. What a disaster. Why even have it if you're not talking about anything? I get not discussing details, but literally not talking about it at all. Strange. I expect more from the team at this point.

They have it for two reasons:

 

1) They have to have a press conference at the start of camp and any press conference is going to be centered on Kane.

2) Having it with Kane and the 3 leaders of the organization suggests strong support for him.

 

 

Take into account the absolute nothing to gain everything to lose situation with answering questions and it was inevitable that they'd say next to nothing about Kane/Rape questions.

I don't really think it was a joke. They had to have the PC. None of them could comment on anything related to the rape investigation. They could have had a PC with Kane and his lawyer only, but the optics of that would send a strong negative message.

Do they think treating him like a 5 year old child will shame him into better behavior?

Dan Bernstein always has to have a guy on the inside who gives him the straight dope.

 

It makes no sense to force him to face the media as some sort of punishment. The Blackhawks organization probably took the biggest hit with that PC. They had it because there was really no way to not have one.

When did the "no means no" campaign begin? I feel like a large part of the male population are still working from the old school "her mouth says no but her eyes say yes" mentality and they figure that's what happened to Kane. Thus they can cheer for him feeling like he didn't know he was doing anything wrong.

It's not just men that are cheering him, and pulling the "innocent until proven guilty" stuff.
