Amazing that I want to talk hockey and not off the ice stuff, but even if Kane is welcomed back to the team, the Hawks still have quite a few moves to make don't they? For one, Kruger is just chilling waiting to sign, but he can't because the Hawks are still projected to be over the cap by a decent amount.

It's possible they are holding off until they decide what to do with Kane because they can probably get themselves under the cap by trading him and taking less back if they wanted to go that route.

I'm not sure how much they're over the cap but they can stash Grabutt and Morin at RockVegas without any of it counting against the cap. That's 1.5 in savings there. If they can move Bickell while paying half his salary that should clear enough room to sign Kruger.

It's hard to measure just how much relief the Hawks would get if they did trade Kane. To send him to a destination where he'd agree to go, they'd have to pay some of his salary and then they'd have to pay the guys that they get in return. Thus I doubt that it affects Kruger's signing very much if at all.

Andrew Shaw? Everybody thinks Versteeg or Bickell but finding a taker for Shaw would be easier. Considering all the trouble they had finding a taker for Sharp. Maybe Bickell + $2 million for a 7th round pick.

Shaw in a pure salary dump?

Elliot Friedman is reporting on twitter that Versteeg to Carolina is in the works.

Blackhawks inked Kuger to a 1 yr deal

Really nice of him to sign another bridge deal. It will be interesting to see what the market is for a guy like Kruger.

I'm still expecting a deal for a cheap, veteran defenseman to take a little pressure off of TVR as well as Swedberg/ Pokka who may or may not be ready.

Hejda and Paille signed to PTO contracts. Can't hurt to bring these guys in cheap and see if they stick.

Hejda has a decent chance of making the team since it's either him or someone like him unless one of the young Norsemen makes a big impression at camp.

Paille I think is a waste of time given the depth the Hawks have at forward but whatever. There's no risk

I haven't looked closely at the depth chart, but an article I read yesterday on these signings suggested Paille is the more likely one to stick. But I'd agree with you the need for depth is greater at D.

I think the Hawks statement was good. By no means did they endorse Kane or support him and explained their rationale.

This is stupid for Kane to even be here if he's only answering hockey questions. No one gives a [expletive] about what kind of hockey shape he is in or how it feels to see his teammates after the summer.

Yeah, by the time I figured out what channel it was on and went there from the Cubs game they were past the statement and said only hockey questions for Kane.

I have no idea what they said.

The questions were stupid so I went back to the Cubs.

This is a PR statement, showing that the team supports him and in effect believes his story and believes he will be exonerated, without saying anything like the Ravens said when they made Ray Rice's wife apologize for getting hit.
