You know the Hawks are a big deal these days when WGN broadcasts a preseason game during Tuesday night prime time

I wouldn't know since WGN America is showing reruns of Corner Gas or America's Funniest videos or some other crap.

I don't even know where to find WGN on my cable box anymore. And I can't say that I've missed it since they moved it.

You guys get Corner Gas in the States? Sorry about that.

Perusing the roster for tonight's game, I saw that Thomas Kopecky is back with the Hawks, I assume on a PTO.

Whatever.

#Blackhawks make it official: They've agreed to terms with defenseman Brent Seabrook on an eight-year contract extension. From Chris Kuc. love the deal

glad he's staying, but holy crap. that is way longer than i thought/hoped.

TCI noted that the current CBA will expire before the contract does so presumably there will be another buy out option for contracts like this one. It's a trade off. They get Seabrook basically at the same salary until the current group runs its course. He could have gotten more had he waited for FA.

Stephen Johns (Dman--traded to Dallas in the Sharp trade) has been waived by Dallas. I know a few people weren't enamored with including him in the trade. If Stan wants, he can try to bring him back.

Yea I thought he was supposed to compete for the sixth d spot before the trade.

That's pretty surprising. It's not like Dallas is bursting with good defenseman. Maybe the don't like the way the injuries are piling up so far in his short career.

He hardly played and he bad mouthed the team after he got traded. They would have had to petition his name and they had other people they wanted instead.

Former Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta left off Stanley Cup - Chicago Tribune

https://apple.news/Aov_HzncvTaSQbVjZ0BsNCg

Interesting.

He didn't play in the minimum number of regular season games for a goalie or backup goalie and was never listed as a backup in the Cup Final. To get on the Cup the Hawks would have to petition the league for an exemption which they won't do.

I know a skater has to appear in 41 regular season games, while a goalie has to be listed as either a backup or starter around the same amount of games. EDITED-Basically what Bittner said

I'm really curious to see how the lines will shake out. They've been talking all summer about Dano Toews Hossa as the top line. assuming Kane is still on the team: ? Anisimov Kane is the 2nd line and Kruger centers the human shield line with Desjardins on one wing. The rest is kind of a muddle. Will they want Shaw or Tuevo at center on the 3rd line? I could see them moving Tuevo to LW on the 2nd line and having Shaw between Panarin and Tihkonev (sp?) That leaves Garbutt/ Hartman/ O'Neil/ Bickell/ whomever else on Kruger's other wing.

I'd rather have Tuevo center that 3rd line between Shaw and Panarin but that forces Bickell to the 2nd line opposite Kane. Playing Bickell on that line might give him some confidence but he's so inconsistent during the regular season. Then again, Bickell will be playing for a new contract so maybe he shines in that spot.

whatever it is when the puck drops on game 1 I'm sure it will change frequently.

I feel like the line blender didn't get as much use the last half of last season.

Also Bickell was placed on waivers. If I understand it correctly, another team can pick him up if they are willing to absorb his contract. If he clears waivers, he will likely be sent to Rockford, where presumably Dano would be called up.

Interesting stuff to say the least.

If he's sent to Rockford $950K can be removed from his $4 mildo cap hit. So there's a little relief. I don't believe Dano getting called back happens right away unless someone claims Bickell. Even then this might be Q trying to send a message. Plus he's liked Baun since day 1 so we'll see where that goes.
