Both teams can be happy.

In a perfect world, Saad would be on a line with Andrew Ladd and Campbell would be our fourth D.

In a cap world, losing Saad, gaining two playable centers (one of whom is quite young and talented himself) is a lateral move at worst.

It can never be a lateral move at worst if you lose the best player in a trade.

Oh, you are in one of those moods. Feel free to wristslash away.

Eat a dick Kyle. It was stupid to call it lateral at worst.

Your emotion is clouding your hockey judgment, which is usually cloudy enough on its own.

This isn't a terrible return.

And it probably helps his leverage in Sharp talks because he doesn't have to move him.

Is that true? They took back like 5 million in salary on the trade, or roughly what Saad would have made. Of course they got at least 2 probably 3 players that will fill up that space but I think they might still need to get rid of Sharp and/or Bickell still. This does open up the possibility of bringing back someone like Oduya, Richards or maybe even Vermette, no?

Yeah I hope they do still move Sharp. It's not like his value will increase going forward. Same with Bickell. Don't let teams see another year of [expletive] from him and know he's toast.

Could this also help keep Oduya? I'm not apoplectic.

Oduya has been on record saying he will test free agency first.

This move saves very little from what the cap situation was a day ago. People factored in ~4m for saad and they took back players.

right but like you said they took back players. So for Saad's 4 million they have 3 guys making about 5 million to fill roster spots. Filled 2 roster spots for a million and one of those roster spots is a legit top 2 line center

That would be one of the best set of centers we've iced on opening night in the dynasty era.

That second line looks beastly. I could do without Bickell and Versteeg's cap number so I hope they do indeed move them with Sharp in several deals. Some of their up and comers in the AHL looked good.

Is Anisinov an upgrade to Richards?

Patrick Sharp - 5.9MM cap hit

Kris Versteeg - 2.2MM cap hit

Bryan Bickell - 4MM cap hit

Total saving neglecting what we receive back in trades: 12.1MM

Brad Richards had some good moments this year but he was mostly useless so I would hope so.

Would seem we don't have to move all three (unless they plan for some other big splash)

Sharp would be the easy choice if you were to move someone. He is 33, so if the Hawks want to move to a younger winger, then he would first. It seems that with the move of Saad, they still maybe looking to build depth using Sharp as leverage since they don't necessarily have to move him.

I don't like this [expletive] at all.

Think how the Kings felt after they had to blow up their team. Although they got lucky they could clear cap space thanks to the Canadian Border Patrol.

I wonder if we can find some dirt on Bickell too

It's probably a good move because a good organization made it. But Saad was one of my favorites and it sucks from that standpoint. I have heard about Dano for a couple years though and I think he's going to be really good. Still hate to trade an already good 22 year old.

Thought for sure the plan was to move some payroll to keep Saad. Still have the payroll and Saad is gone. I'm bummed.
