Do the Mariners have any good young bullpen arms?

Yes, but presumably they're making this trade to help stay competitive this year, so it's unlikely that they'll be dealing from the best of their pen. Maybe Furbush if they really like Montgomery and/or Elias's ability to replace him. Maybe.

Medina is bullpen depth, hopefully they can straighten him out like they did Strop. Slightly worrisome velocity drop so far this season, fingers crossed it's a mechanical issue. Pretty meh return.

still worlds more inspiring than Motte/Coke/Schlitter sacks of [expletive]

super horrified that montero is immediately going to get injured now but glad to be done with three catchers. it's just completely untenable, especially given that we insist on carrying a million pitchers.

try to think of this as endorsement for Schwarber as 'Plan B' and it's more exciting

That's how I'm viewing this. Medina's an improvement over the bums that we've seen for most of the year. I think if Montero were to get hurt, they'd call up Schwarber too.

Coke and Schlitter sure, but to me he's in a similar boat as Motte and Germen, which is to say on his better days he'd be the 4th righty and 5th best overall arm in the pen, dropping down further if/when Ramirez is healthy. Maybe they see something fixable that can turn him around, but considering that there's no immediate replacement for Castillo the bench bat, I'm not a big fan of trading Castillo for Medina on its face.

Wada and Lake were already on their way up for Schlitter and Coke.

I wonder if Villanueva gets some run if La Stella isn't ready, it'd certainly be better than going back to 14 pitchers.

there's also the equation that Bosio + those guys = known dumpster fire, while Bosio + Medina = a world of possibilities

Motte's last 47 appearances ('14-'15) have yielded a 5.96 FIP, and ownership of the 5th-most destructive RP WAR during that span; i strongly resent any suggestion that he can be a valuable part of this team

Alcantara?

I'm being uncharitable with the exact dates, but he has not been doing well with Iowa. Last 2 weeks he's at 60 PA, .185/.237/.296, 18/4 K/BB
