What exactly was Montero doing there...?

 

Sets up for the throw behind the plate.....then misses the ball, which wasn't a terrible hop by any stretch IMO. Play that should have been made and Nelson likely is out.

Given where the ball landed, that's likely a more difficult hop if he's in front of the plate. My stream isn't the greatest so I can't be quite sure how it was spinning, but it looked like Montero probably should have had it where he did set up.

Agreed. Which is what I kind of meant....just horrible at conveying it in the "moment".....My bad

 

He set up to get the angle/better position to judge/take the hop....then missed it anyway.

I never would have guessed that this wouldn't be able to hit for power. Absolutely shocked at how few home runs and just extra base hits in general there have been.
