Why does there have to be a "crisis point?" The game as a whole has moved steadily towards the DH on all levels with few exceptions. The lowering of the mound wasn't simply a panicked response to what happened the season before; it was a response to a prolonged period of lopsided pitching vs. hitting performances. Adding the DH to the NL now would largely be a response to an extended period of slipping offensive production.

I'm still laughing at "progress", as if this is the [expletive] Industrial Revolution and not a game.

Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn't make it the best way.

Obviously, but just because something is a change doesn't make it the best way either. One of the moves mentioned in the post I was referring to there was the lowering of the mound, which made sense because there were like two .300 hitters the year prior and offense was at crisis point. Not being sufficiently entertained by the 2 PA/game that pitchers take is hardly 'crisis point' to me.

Waiting for crisis points to take action is a terrible way to manage anything.

Maddon on NL/DH idea post-Wainwright injury: “He could have got hurt traveling to the ballpark in his car. (He's) supposed to stop driving?"

That's not even pandering. That's totally on point.

I want the DH in the NL but a pitcher suffering a fluke injury running bases is not why and thinking it is is the actual meatbally response.

That definition excludes TLR's drunken nap in a running car at a stoplight. It really shouldn't be excluded.

I just don't find that humorous at all. If Cubs players did that, I wouldn't make jokes about it.
