Adam Wainwright acknowledged after Saturday's game that the injury is to the back of his left ankle.

In other words, it's his Achilles tendon. And if he ruptured it, the ace right-hander could be done for the rest of the 2015 season. "I thought I got hit by something," said Wainwright, who pulled up lame after a fifth-inning pop-out on Saturday night in Milwaukee. "If you look at the replay, I get out of the box and I looked back to think the catcher’s mask must of hit me or the bat must’ve hit me, something must’ve hit me." Apr 25 - 11:08 PM

its funny it took me a minute or two before it clicked with me that this could be news that positively impacts us. Takes you awhile to get used to being relevant again.

Hope Wainwright can recover for next year. Sucks when anyone goes down, even a stupid Cardinal. I'm sure whoever replaces him in the rotation will have a .089 BABIP against or something.

You hate to see your odds improve due to something like this, but after all these years of ineptitude I just can't help but think what this does for our chances to taking the division.

Last time he had a season ending injury, 2011 happened, so pardon me if I don't weep for these jackasses if he's done for the year again

I would think that if it were ruptured, he wouldn't have been able to walk off at all, but the sensation of being "hit" makes me think something popped, which sounds like a rupture.

Who knows.

What are the symptoms of Achilles tendon rupture?

You may notice the symptoms come on suddenly during a sporting activity or injury. You might hear a snap or feel a sudden sharp pain when the tendon is torn. The sharp pain usually settles quickly, although there may be some aching at the back of the lower leg. After the injury, the usual symptoms are:

A flat-footed type of walk. You can walk and bear weight, but cannot push off the ground properly on the side where the tendon is ruptured.

Inability to stand on tiptoe.

If the tendon is completely torn, you may feel a gap just above the back of the heel. However, if there is bruising then the swelling may disguise the gap.

I came out in defense of the White Sox in another thread, but this is different. [expletive] the Cardinals, let's get happy.

ETA: Just because this is a good place to talk about shitty Cardinals stuff, I traded Oscar Tavares for Kris Bryant in my keeper league last year, lmao. Sorry, I'm not sorry I enjoy the Cardinals' failures.

very much sounds like a ruptured achilles

i bet his achilles is stronger than before and now he can throw 103

You can't defend the White Sox here, just where do you think you are? Screw them.

And though I take great pleasure in anything that hampers the Cards, Wainwright is actually pretty likable. Too bad it couldn't have been Molina getting a severely infected neck tat or something.

No need to waste energy hating on the White Sox. They're going to be mediocre and irrelevant without us.

Tried to hint at that without saying it outright. Not even worth caring about, at all.

It takes no energy, hating the Sox is just like breathing. I despise them, but they don't vex me like the Cards do.

I just truly despise the Cardinals, and I don't see the White Sox being relevant enough to the Cubs to care about. I was born and raised in the Chicago area, and was a freshman in high school for 2005, prime time to be heckled by the idiot Sox fans I went to school with, so this isn't me "not understanding" that bad Sox fans are annoying or something.

I just had the hate instilled in me at a very early age; it was a "if you love the Cubs, you hate the Cardinals and the White Sox" rule. That was my early childhood indoctrination, and Hawk keeps the spite fresh for me. It doesn't have to make sense, it's sports fandom.

And as much as I genuinely loathe the Cardinals, you have to admit this would be such a [expletive] way to lose your ace for the season. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. They receive more than their fair share of good fortune (on the field), but Waino rupturing his achilles (if that is what it turns out to be) coming out of the box on a pop-up would be some measure of karmic balance for some of their flying in the face of statistical probability.

If it happened to Lester or something, people would be talking about how "Cubs" it was. Regardless, it would be good for us if Wainwright is out for an extended period, and I don't feel guilty for recognizing (if not reveling in) it.

I'm not gonna root for him to be hurt...but I don't have to root for him to be ok. The Cardinals not being healthy will not affect my enjoyment of the Cubs being successful in any way whatsoever.

Being the Cardinals, I'm confident that he'll miss two starts at most. Nothing keeps those boys out of action long. Well, there is one thing, but you know.

And being the Cardinals, if he does miss the whole season, they'll just trade Tyler Melling for Cole Hamels or Johnny Cueto.

Why the hell would you want that? You don't get a bye in the playoffs for beating a team at their best.

It's not career threatening, he's going to get his money and come back and still be awesome. He's had a ton of success, they've had a ton of success with and without him. That whole "you never want to see anyone injured" stuff is nonsense for fans who want to try to show how "classy" they are.

I hope he loses the leg.
