I know... Seriously though are there any FA guys out there that we can take the proverbial "flyer" on? I'm all for bumping Jackson up, but if Grimm and Ramirez are dead we need to find another reliever somewhere.

marmol was the best. two true outcomes pitcher to the greatest extent such a thing could exist. nothing but k's and bb's and occasional broken bat flairs. it didn't even matter who was hitting, everyone had the same chance at scoring.

Can Turner or someone stop being "hurt" now? Letting him long toss in the 6th inning of a game would still be better than he who shall not be named (babip be damned). Letting Turner pitch a few games might make it look less fishy when you eventually stash him on the 60 day once Neil returns.

Have to say that we are pretty lucky that we didn't have to lose tonight's game for Maddon to (hopefully) figure out that Jaxon is the go to guy early in a close game.

I figure if we were willing to gut $4mil on Dave Veres after 2 months, these guys aren't going to mess around for much longer.

you mean jose veras?

We could try Donn Roach, but I fear he's going to be Schlitter part II. Rivero just needs a week or 10 days to stop walking people and giving up runs, and then he'll be up.

in 10 days Grimm might be deployable

which is why we should have been leaning more heavily on Strop & Rondon...let them go 2 innings on occasion or be put into earlier high-leverage situations; you can back off when reinforcements come, that is unless Ramirez is toast, i guess

Its the one negative feature of having a higher velocity bullpen, there's going to be a higher rate of elbow/forearm injuries.

Last year, the Cubs bullpen FB velo was ranked 18th at 92.5 MPH. Right now, they're 2nd at 94.1.

Grimm and Ramirez played critical roles last year and based on data, they're more likely to get injured the following season and it's holding true.

Grimm's avg FB velo was 94 last year and it was 91.6 last year (largely due to shift from starter to reliever).

Ramirez was similar as far as avg 94 on the gun.

Wada will also be ready before long, making either him, Jaxon, and/or Rosscup more free to take higher leverage innings.
