39th in MLB in fWAR with .6 despite not qualifying.

it's not quite that simple- it could also be that they mistakenly think he'll change; after all, Didi Gregorious is in the top-20 as well for pitches out of the zone

Yes, but Didi Gregorius is the reincarnated humanoid fleshbot of Derek Jeter, so it would make sense that he is amazing at utilizing everything this world can throw at him, especially outside pitches.

His OPS is 499. I wouldn't use the word amazing anywhere near anything he does at the plate.

Of course there'll be some stinkers in there who get themselves out outside of the zone, but the average OPS of that same top 20 is .828, so there's clear value in being on that list.

*Includes CarGo's .594, which is probably not going to stay that low

When the D-Backs acquired Gregorius they had essentially traded Trevor Bauer for him (who has been awesome this year) and were convinced that Gregorius was the second coming of Derek Jeter.

I think CarGo may just be toast.

Was at a family gathering today, they all insisted that the cubs rookies are all gonna be busts.

They served me a heavy dosage of K/AB stats.. then proceeded to use Joc Peterson and Jose Abreu as examples of what "cant miss" means..

After my rebuttal, they quickly pointed out several others over the years that were busts including Corey Patterson, Hee Sop Choi, Bobby Hill, Felix Pie, Brooks Keishnick, etc.

tuff day to be a cubs fan .. yikes.

Bryant in a mini-slump: 3 for his last 21 with 10 Ks.

His SLG is lower than his OBP now

He will snap out of it, but definitely scuffling a bit. Has been 8 games since his last XBH. the great news about Bryant is that even when he's slumping he can get on base (.324 OBP his last 8 games despite hitting .172 (5-29). If that's slumping Bryant, I can't wait to see red hot Bryant.

I'm a little concerned that he isn't catching up to even average fastballs lately; he's had a few good pitches to hit the last week and he's fouling everything off so let's hope he gets it straightened out soon

The entire team today, for whatever reason, couldn't keep up with Fiers' 90 mph heat, so it's not just him. I saw plenty of 89 mph foul balls hit the opposite way. And they let lots of hittable pitches go by right through the middle of the zone. Today has exacerbated their struggles, but they deserved to lose this game. Fiers does not have overpowering stuff, he should've been mincemeat. So Bryant isn't alone in the struggles. He'll bounce back, as will the rest of the team

This is all Baez' fault; we can't see normal struggle and development and for what it is thanks to him being a walking disaster.

The team is likely going to be plenty frustrating for stretches this year since the offense is mostly anchored by superpowered baby men who need to complete their developmental cycle in their rocket before crashing into a Kansas field and being adopted by a kindly local couple. It'll get better.

I blame Corey Patterson, Geo Soto, Felix Pie, Brett Jackson, and Josh Vitters. I still have hope for Baez.

But yes, I 100% agree with you're point. Cubs fans are ready for the new day, but a lot of them still fear the imaginary Baseball God who demands a sacrifice in the form of the career of every Cubs prospect who reaches the big leagues.

That is such an odd list to put together. If nothing else, Geo put up 10.8 WAR for us.
