Bleh. I guess it could be worse - hiring Rex Ryan would have sucked. Hopefully it will be Bowles or Quinn will ascend at the last second.

Without commenting on Fox's competence, I find it mildly ironic that Elway fired a coach for not winning a SB fast enough.

I thought reports were that Fox initiated the "mutual agreement".

I am reading between the lines based on Glazer's reporting and Elway's comments yesterday. Sure sounds like he was fired.

So yesterday Kyle Long tweeted at Martellus...

@Ky1eLong

I'm afraid I have to reciprocate your act. You have been unfollowed @MartysaurusRex

This morning, Martellus replied...poorly...

@MartysaurusRex

@Ky1eLong why are you worried about who is following you on twitter? More important [expletive] is happening in my world than Kyle Long's tweets

@MartysaurusRex

@Ky1eLong I don't need this form of social currency maybe you do. If a follow from me is going to make you feel wealthier socially, then

@MartysaurusRex

@Ky1eLong u need to get out more. I prefer our day to day interactions in person. But that's just me. You have my number. Stop the [expletive]

Why do we have so many guys who have no idea how to behave over social media?

I think this is why they want someone like Fox or Bowles rather than an "up and coming" young guy or college coach. The "locker room" is out of control and the next coach needs to get it back under control.

Fox will surround himself with good people. He's always done that.

Now the OC, that will be the question as per the firection we go in.

Love to have a former HC thats not likely to get or want a second chance.

Has he always done that? Who was on his Carolina staff? It looks to me like a bunch of no names. Mike McCoy was there, and Dan Henning on his last legs. But he doesn't have much of a tree for a guy with two decades of head coaching.

One mildly interesting name is Mike Trgovac who was his DC for a few years and is now the GB DL coach.

Fox/Schwartz is a good D pairing. Offense would certainly be a question.

Some of that (not all) may have been due to how the chairs were moving during his time in Carolina. Too lazy to go back and look, but IIRC, college coaches were hotter commodities back then. Then Pitt hit a HR with Tomlin and the trend shifted back to assistants.

McCoy was his OC and is doing well in SD.

And does anyone know why Trgovac isn't at least a DC at this point? Some guys just don't have the personality to move around to different org's and cultures, would be my guess.

And im good with that. Fox can do the headbusting as long as he has a playcaller.

Packers have denied permission to interview position assistants in the past.

I mean, that is the question. That is the problem. The Bears haven't had a good OC in our lifetimes. Their best guy was Norv Turner's little brother who was more suited to college and the weird Canadian. Are there Dan Henning disciples out there that Fox can pull from, and would we want them? Otherwise there is not much.

I'd also like to point out that Fox went to the playoffs and won a wild card game with [expletive] Tim Tebow at QB.

At 8-8 and only thanks to the Bears literally giving it away.

Yes and yes...and then he beat Pittsburgh in the playoffs with Tebow. That's pretty impressive.

Kevin Turks is out as #Bears director of pro personnel.

So much for getting to know the current staff and working with them this first season. Turks was one of the guys effectively running the day to day operations when Emery was bounced. Not that much needed to be done. Although with a new GM that had primarily "pro personnel" duties on his resume, Turks was the most vulnerable.

Keep in mind that Elway told Fox's staff to take a walk as well.

I don't think it'd be phrased that way if it was a new job.

He told them they were free to interview but they maintain contractual control.

Yeah, this doesn't strike me as an enormous loss.

I picture the maester at Griffin's Roost flying out the tower window when the Golden Company took the keep.

I read that they were told to "look elsewhere". I suppose it depends on who they bring in to replace Fox.

Given the lack of depth of available candidates, I wonder who Elway thinks he can grab that will be so much better than Fox?

They are free to look elsewhere. That is standard procedure when a HC departs.

Yea, probably not but I've become wary of how tweets get worded.

Let's make Marion Barber the head coach

Another DC option?

@MikeSilver

I'm told word in coaching circles is 49ers DC Vic Fangio now wants out of SF unless he gets HC job... or Mike Shanahan does.
