That would be totally uninspiring, although inspiring doesn't mean much. Really curious what a staff would look like. I'd bet Toub would keep a couple guys, and takes a former hc as a coordinator

If he goes to his Reid connections for O and Lovie connections for D... It could work. Not sure who from those trees would be good coordinators.

Childress or Mornhinweg would be OC names to watch if Toub is HC.

I guess Marinelli could be a DC to watch as he doesn't have a contract yet. Otherwise looks like he should probably look outside the Lovie tree

Basically exactly how I feel. Wouldn't be excited about it but that really doesn't mean anything.

That's a good way of putting it.

Ultimately I will judge this hire based on if he shows up to the introductory press conference looking more like this:

F it. I want to be inspired.

Also I find it odd that a team known for its ex players leading great teams, the Bears have shown no interest in their former 80s players. In the last 10 years, Singletary, Rivera, Harbaugh, Frazier have all gotten their first jobs with no interest from the Bears. You could even throw in Jeff Fisher's re-hire and Rex Ryan. Not that I necessarily wanted those guys, but you'd think the way the Bears like familiarity and the glory days they'd have shown more interest in one of those guys.

Riveras first job was with the Bears and he has a second stint as a coordinator. He's also a meh head coach.

Don't forget Sean Payton!

Back to the Trestman thing...I don't think that's going to end well. I don't think Trestman can coach in the NFL. I think the league has figured out what Trestman likes to do. And Lovie has no idea how to hire an OC.

I think if you go the Toub route, he has to bring in guys like Morningwheg and Marinelli.

Are either of those guys available?

Why would Wolf do that? Kelly is clearly the man in charge there.

Maybe it's a knee-jerk reaction from watching an offensive specialist coach follow up a defensive specialist coach, but I have been hoping to see a guy like Toub get an opportunity. The guy seems to get the most out of his players and gets them to buy into whatever he's selling. Assuming he can stay within himself and hire coordinators to actually run the offense and defense, I like the idea of having a coach that can get results period rather than one of the offensive or defensive phases specifically.

I actually wondered if Toub would get an interview when Trestman was brought in. I wasn't sure if he didn't have the ambition, or the connections to flesh out a staff, or if he just wasn't considered capable as a head coach. Hopefully it was just an oversight.

I thought Toub did interview.

Did the Bears really need Ernie Accorsi to help find Chris Ballard?

No.

But they probably did need him to confirm if Ballard was as well regarded as they think he is, and to compare him with other candidates. They needed to see/hear about those other guys before deciding on bringing back a former employee.

Florio was apparently on the radio this morning, and thinks the Falcons could be the first team to hire a coach....and that it'll be Rex Ryan after his interview today.
