Its just too bad they insisted on including FSU. Otherwise 4 was a really good field for this year.

If not for that stupid OPI at the end of the ND game, we would have gotten Bama vs. Baylor and Oregon vs. Ohio State (the latter of which we will get anyway, I suppose). Yesterday was awesome, but without FSU it could've been even better.

I think the best part of yesterday was seeing FSU get humiliated. If they weren't there, that never happens, and that would be a shame.

That's a pretty good counterpoint.

Though the most fun would have been TCU or Baylor first embarrassing FSU in a 6 team playoff with byes.

Why does everyone hate FSU? I'm not a fan, but I don't understand why they are hated more than Bama or Ohio St even. I understand hating Jameis, and I guess in turn hating the team, but they clearly deserved to be one of the 4 teams.

For me it was the getting away with rape, overall culture, overrated aspect of things. But you make a good point. FSU and OSU have much more in common than they don't.

I don't see how you can say they "clearly deserved" to be one.

But I think everybody hates them because they have so many run-ins with the law and are the quintessential small town cops protect the football team organization. They are in Florida, which is another strike. And they kind of lucked their way into an undefeated season which forced people into begrudgingly allowing them to participate in the tourny.

I'm mostly looking at it from the football perspective - most big programs are scummy overall and I only choose the least evil when we get to this point in the season.

Agreed. Still doesn't explain hating them more than Ohio St (coached by Urban Meyer mind you) or any Nick Saban coached team.

I think it has been pointed out on this site the multiple instances where they pulled off last minute/weak wins this year and that all evidence pointing toward them being worse than their record would indicate.

Although I don't pay close attention to college football and may have the details wrong.

I think an FSU/Bama matchup would have changed the hate meter significantly.

But you've answered your own question already with the Winston raped a girl and got away with it story. He's the face of the team and raped a girl but got away with a little help from friends of the program.

Yeah, that seems accurate. They have 7 wins by 6 or fewer points, but only 2 really came down to the end (one of which they led and held vs. ND and the other they scored to win at the end). Doesn't seem like "luck" that a team won close games. Especially when that team has multiple instances of winning close games, and their QB had never lost a game.

Just off the top of my head, they should have lost to Clemson but for their RB fumbling the ball away when the Tigers were already in position for a game-winning field goal in the final minute, and they should have lost to ND but for Irish receivers bailing FSU out and committing OPI on the game's penultimate play. They also fell behind by 17 to NC State, by 9 to Florida and several other times this season (which, yes, they came back, but great teams shouldn't need to do that over and over again).

2014 FSU was basically 2012 ND only without the road win over Oklahoma, and the surprise level for me that Oregon crunched them was zero.

By advanced metrics FSU was barely a Top 10 team, not a playoff contender. I saw on the scroll yesterday that they're the first team ever to win 7 games by 6 points or less(those two numbers might need to be reversed, but you get the idea). They played a relatively weak schedule, although the ACC winning the Week 15 ACC/SEC challenge and getting GT in the conference title game helped. They have a number of players with run-ins with the law(and not exactly victimless crime here, rape, domestic abuse, hit and run, etc) that have gone underpunished by the team and local law enforcement(if they were punished at all). They are the most hateable team in a very long time, and watching them get buried by Oregon's engine of death and their own hilarious sequence of blunders was very cathartic.

From a purely football perspective they both deserved to be there though- whereas Florida St didn't to many. It depends how heavily you weight going undefeated but hardly winning with authority the whole year. And probably the team most snubbed due to FSUs inclusion, TCU, doesn't seem as scummy as most so it's easy to hate FSU more.

Ohio State is basically the only B1G I'll never cheer for but when it came down to it, they were stopping the powerful Bama team. I will go back to cheering against them with Oregon up.

Oh are we arguing that they're a great team and not surprised they lost.....or that they were one of the 4 most deserving? Even if they lose that Clemson game, it was with their backup QB and still a better loss than Virginia Tech, and maybe even Ole Miss now that things are said and done.

Did we ever get video of Bama fan grief?

I could post screenshots from my Facebook newsfeed. Though, most of my Alabama fan friends knew they didn't have a dominant team this year.

Kids & women are usually unaware and therefore shocked as hell :)

Oh well.

Advanced metrics are fine. But that's not how the teams are picked. The way the teams are currently picked for the playoffs, FSU was clearly one of the 4 teams that deserved to be in.

I'd personally rather look at the other 10-12 performances than each team's worse loss, as long as it's not like Mich-App state type loss.

I guess they earned the "right" to be there but not many actually believed in them as a top 4- and the loss vindicates that feeling.

I don't have a problem with FSU being in the playoff, I'm just answering your question. By virtue of a pretty crazy series of close wins against a middling schedule they were an undefeated power conference champion. They should have been one of the 4 teams even if on paper they're closer to 10 than 4.

At this point I am really confused what it is you think is being argued.

FSU was almost unquestionably not a top 4 team this year.

They made the most headlines in the most egregious manner this year from a scummy factor.

And their indignant fans really made a show of ignoring any evidence that they were not good and are hateable.

Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuy

Not enough space on the internets to describe all of the things we did wrong last night. A few things go differently, and it's a good game. We couldn't stop them on offense, but we were limiting possessions and giving our D adequate rest - and then the avalanche of turnovers happened.

Best kicker in CFB? Missed a FG before the half.

Top 10 CFB WR? Missed an easy catch before the kick to end the half.

Best TE in CFB? Gets hurt during warm ups.

Can't execute and get red zone TDs against Oregon? Bad.

That having been said, Oregon played very well. I was surprised that they were in sync from the get-go, as I thought their timing would be a bit off. Between that and how physical they were, I was impressed.

Jameis had a very solid game, other than the fumble. That was just ridiculous, like the entire night.
