Will Muschamp's future job?

A day after allowing 55 points to Alabama in the Iron Bowl, Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson has been dismissed.

I'm pleased to see they acted swiftly on this. I'm not sure if it will be Muschamp, but it would be great to get the new guy in place quickly so he can begin installing his defense and hit the recruiting trail.

It will be. Answer to Bama hiring Kiffin.

Ugh. Florida has reportedly offered the job to Freeze. Ole Miss surely has enough rich donors to keep him. Also, having just rebuilt Ole Miss from a 2-10 season to a legitimate title contender this year, I'm not sure he'd want to go spend the next few years doing the exact same thing at Florida. Who knows? At any rate, I hope we can keep him.

didn't see it posted, but an Ohio State DL was found dead in a dumpster over the weekend of a self-inflicted wound; just a terrible, sad story

Susan Karageorge told Columbus' NBC4 her son sent her the following text before vanishing: "Sorry if I am an embarrassment, but these concussions have my head all (expletive) up."

Anyone know if they're doing a CTE test?

I believe Muschamp is Auburn's first choice, but they will be competing with A&M, FSU, and potentially the NFL for his services. It's definitely not a slam dunk. I'm hearing that South Carolina is another option and Muschamp could take over eventually (soon) for the ol' ball coach.

I think Muschamp is at the top of A&M's list and from what I hear we are going to offer a lot of money to get a top flight DC this time around. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

I'm just assuming Auburn will get it done as they can make a move now, before NFL teams will have a chance to offer him. A&M is an option (also fired DC) but I think Auburn is more attractive.

Why is Michigan waiting so long to "decide" re Hoke? This reeks of incompetence. Is there some financial advantage to officially dismissing him on a Tuesday? What do the pay periods look like UM? Freaking ridiculous. I haven't cared about college football for years because of this isht.

supposedly florida is going to speak with chip kelly. good luck with that.

He'd be nuts to take that job. I don't care how much money they offer him. He'd be much better off staying in Philly another couple of years and waiting for Brian Kelly's inevitable dismissal.

you're angry because he's (exceedingly likely) going to be fired today and not yesterday?

To answer your second question, I believe Michigan has to pay him $1M less in buyout if they fire him after Jan. 1 - not that they will wait that long.

I don't think that matters. It would be more harmful to the program to leave Hoke in limbo for another month (because of recruiting mostly) than it would be to pay that extra $1m to go away today.

And it looks like today is the day....2:30 PM CST press conference.

eh, this recruiting class is completely fubar anyway, though; it's at 7 verbals right now and like 3 are solid

UM decommits so far (247 composite rank):

Damien Harris (33)

George Campbell (36)

Mike Weber (101)

Darian Roseboro (106)

Shaun Crawford (119)

Garrett Taylor (123)

Darrin Kirkland (178)

Chris Clark (80), Tyree Kinnel (181) seem liable to jump ship at any moment and Brian Cole (61) isn't any lock to stay

He's officially done, per ESPN.

That said, what frustrates me is that apparent lack of decisiveness. I think it looks stupid and unprofessional in this day and age to leave your coach in limbo for at more than 48 hours. If they had made the decision then they should have just executed on it. What was the upside to waiting until Tuesday? If they hadn't made the decision yet (particularly based on the number of de-commits in the recruiting class) then Hackett is dumb.

Now that we know he is gone, let the Harbaugh brothers pursuit commence...

it seems like they wanted to let him inform the players himself, a courtesy Nebraska didn't extend which resulted in some hostility and bad PR

Could have easily called a team meeting yesterday. It was silly to wait until today.

Chris Clark did indeed jump ship.
