Matthew Pouliot @matthewpouliot

Drake Britton is out of options, which is a big reason why Boston let him go. Now he might be competing with Doubront for a job on the Cubs.

Cubs claimed LHP Drake Britton off waivers from the Red Sox.

Britton was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week after the club signed Alexi Ogando. The 25-year-old southpaw owns a 2.93 ERA over 25 appearances in the majors and it's no surprise that someone else was willing to give him a shot. He'll go into spring training out of options.

Chicago Cubs ‏@Cubs 2m2 minutes ago

#Cubs today claimed LHP Drake Britton off waivers from the Red Sox. RHP Gonzalez Germen was DFA’d to make room on the 40-man roster.

Since December he's been on the Mets, Yankees, Rangers and now the Cubs.

Hopefully Germen is using his frequent flier miles.

I like the Britton move. He has a very good arm, and he's still young enough to show some development. Almost no risk with a modest and not completely far-fetched reward.

Yeah, I like this and the Feliciano signing. Both could be good additions to the pen or they flame out and cost us nothing. That's assuming Britton sticks around longer than a week.

Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales

RHP Gonzalez Germen cleared waivers, outrighted to Triple-A Iowa, will be in major league camp as non-roster invitee.

There was a Javy video/interview I just watched where he mentioned Mallee coming down to work with him in the PR and then he casually mentioned that Manny went down there to help him as well.

SO EXCITED FOR @PHILCOKESBRAIN

Man we have a really, really deep bullpen.

I just want him to relive this:

Yesss

Coke started tinkering with a cutter last year, so maybe Bosio can help him out. Otherwise it's hard for me to see him as better than the alternatives, so he's basically Iowa depth.

He could probably be a pretty great LOOGY if used correctly.

More of an okay LOOGY. His career splits aren't as dramatic as most guys in that role.

I'll meet you in the middle and settle for "good"

2:15pm: Coke’s deal will pay him $2.25MM if he makes the Major League club with the opportunity to earn up to $900K more via incentives, reports MLive.com’s Chris Iott (Twitter links). The incentives kick in beginning with his 35th appearance of the season, Iott adds.

Welcome aboard, Phil.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal

Source: #Cubs have informed Phil Coke that he has made team. He had opted out Friday night because they had not put him on roster.
