they simply don't have another 3-5 MM to give Wright, and out of respect for him, rather than make a low ball offer and ultimately head to a hearing, they're giving him more time to find a new gig. That and/or the fact that at 1.4MM, Wesley Wright was a bargain, and rather than give him a substantial raise, they'd rather find a new bargain.

The Cubs claimed Mike Kickham off waivers from the Giants. He got torched pretty good in a a short 2013 MLB stint, but as a 6th round pick with solid MiLB numbers as a starter, he's an interesting name to add to the LOOGY mix. More interesting than Ortiz, IMO.

 

To make room, they waived newly claimed Shane Peterson, he was claimed by the Brewers.
