Those seem like pretty safe bets, although I might have Coke a bit ahead of Britton as a guess. Basically there's 5 RH that have a lock on bullpen spots and a failed SP will get the 7th spot, so some LH from either the bullpen or failed SP group will get that 6th spot. Keeping someone who's out of options and sending Rosscup/Jokisch to Iowa seems like the best way to maximize the value since we can't really be sure of the level of performance from any of them.

I forgot about Coke.

Rockies release Jhoulys Chacin. WTF?

This from the team with Kyle [expletive] Kendrick as their opening day starter.

With all that said, imagine how bad his shoulder must be in order to just give up on him.

Jeff Passan @JeffPassan

Sources: Hector Olivera's contract includes clause that gives the Dodgers a seventh season at $1M if he needs Tommy John surgery.

According to Bruce Levine, the Orioles have "contacted the Cubs about Wellington Castillo’s status."

Matt Weiters will start the season on the DL and there is no timetable for his return.

Can they give them Ross instead? (I know they cannot)

We're gonna get Bundy and fix him, aren't we

Can we do one of those things where we basically just give then Castillo, but they have to take Jaxon and half his salary? That might honestly be the most productive return the Cubs could get.

This team should not be in the business of giving away talent to convince other teams to take on their contracts.

That is what poor people need to do.

What jersey said. Especially not for just half his already modest salary...wtf

What if the Cubs won't eat his deal to get rid of him? I guess its not the end of the world for him to be a mop up guy. I realize that this would open up another can of worms with regards to the Cubs financial flexibility, but focusing on this hypothetical situation which to me doesn't seem too outrageous of a scenario, what is the best solution to the Jaxon problem, keeping in mind that trip to colonize Mars won't launch for another decade or so.

Wada and Turner are hurt, and Doubront has been worse than Jaxon, keeping him on the roster is not a problem that needs to be fixed.

Trading Castillo for $5.5M or whatever in payroll savings is crazybuckets IMO.

Gotcha, I guess I haven't kept up enough.

Other than him being on the MLB roster or trading him, what other options do the Cubs have with Welly? In order to go down, he'd have to clear waivers (which he wouldn't)?

Convert him to a second baseman, obviously.
