Friedman is proving why he's considered by many the best in the business. It's scary to think what this guy might be able to do with actual money to spend.

 

Giving 4 years to McCarthy is some kind of win?

 

It's a high risk contract that he only gave out because he has a massive payroll to work with. It's certainly not some sort of shrewd move.

What I took away after looking at her hackery is that we are having Oakland take a player in the Rule V tomorrow to send to Boston to complete both PTBNL in both deals. Or maybe we are having Oakland take a player for us and we are taking a player for Boston, IDK, she's [expletive] awful. All that I can be sure of is somehow both PTBNL are getting resolved in the Rule V according to her.

Yeah I don't know how Oakland selecting a player from us is going to resolve the PTBNL that they owe us. And I agree with Chris Green. Remember when people thought Jon Daniels was an elite FO guy? LOL. My friend who was working with the Reds (and is no longer with them) was drooling over him 2 years ago at the SABR conference. That was short lived.

 

You mean the guy who took a franchise at rock bottom following the ARod debacle, and took them to multiple World Series and built the league's best farm system? Yeah, I remember that.

 

He's made some desperation moves the past couple of years. Just like Beane last year, and Theo at the end with Boston. When your window is open, you go all in. Once it closes, who knows when it will be open again (which is why Friedman and Maddon jumped ship in Tampa). But Daniels is just a year removed from putting a 90 win team on the field and his scouting and player development system is still cranking out prospects like Odor, Gallo and Alfaro.

Never even really considered McCarthy getting a 4th year to be honest. So far the only deal I'm even a little jealous of is the Liriano 3/39 and even that isn't worth getting worked up over.
