Moncada

moncada__2_.0.0.jpg

Can we go back and give back eloy and gleyber plz

They could have still signed both of them and not gone over the caps, as long as they didn't sign guys like Jen-Ho Tseng, Erling Moreno, etc.

@JesseSanchezMLB

The latest on Yoan Moncada: Teen to work out for #Cubs, #Dodgers and #Dbacks this week. Aims to sign by month's end

Does not compute.

Due diligence and making what will likely be a failed pitch for him to wait till July.

"Signing" is often used interchangeably with "coming to agreement", so he could basically make his decision by the end of the month, even if that was an agreement with the Cubs. Cubs would obviously need to offer him some pretty good guarantee in case of injury or something, and perhaps still let him work at their facilities or whatever. Ridiculous and even faintly possible, no. But yes, due diligence.

Ben Badler[/url]"]Yes, the Cubs and Rangers would love to have Moncada. They’re both being aggressive and they’re not out of the race, but they are already restricted to signing players for no more than $250,000 until July 2. They are going to have a hard time convincing Moncada, who hasn’t played in a competitive game in more than a year, to wait another five months to sign on July 2.

That’s especially true considering it would take an oral agreement between the Cubs or Rangers and Moncada’s camp to sign on July 2, at which point five teams (including the Red Sox and Yankees) would no longer be able to sign him. It’s one thing for a big agency to feel comfortable trusting that a team would keep its word once those teams were knocked out on July 2. Those agencies have relationships and a certain level of trust with every club, along with other players the team would jeopardize their future if they promised to sign Moncada for a certain amount, then on July 2 dropped their offer. But Moncada is being officially represented by David Hastings, a CPA in Florida who has never represented a player before. That trust factor is hard to count on here.

Hadn't heard about this before. Kinda surprised someone as big as he is went with an unknown like that.

You need to read the Arangure story on it. Moncada is having a baby with one of the agents in Hastings office.

@BenBadler: Due to an MLB rule, Cuban pitchers Vladimir Gutierrez and Yadier Alvares will not be able to sign until July 2: http://t.co/4DKX825LvV

That is absolutely awesome. Yadier Alvares is a must sign.

What could have been:

Cuban infielder Yoan Moncada will not be subject to the registration requirements, since his May 27, 1995 date of birth narrowly beats the cutoff by three months.

Hard to be upset with this one. Just how things played out and it's pretty hard to be worried about quality talent not being there this July.

So who are the top players for this coming signing period that we will presumably be battling the Dodgers for? That pitcher Alvarez, who are the better hitters? Maitan is still a year a way and in the next period, right, not this coming one in July?

@Joelsherman1: Keep hearing #Dodgers waiting to July 2 to spend on international mkt and are going to be very aggressive then

@Joelsherman1: Now hear it was #redsox #brewers #Yankees for Moncada. #Dodgers would have gone to $35M if waited until July 2 to sign

Hal Steinbrenner got some splainin' to do to Yankee fans.

@kileymcd: During my July 2 research, Dodgers were rumored to have a multi-million dollar deal, which seemed weird w/Moncada rumors. Now it doesn't.

@kileymcd: I mentioned earlier that it seemed like LA was weighing options to spend 7/2 money now/next period & Moncada became only reason to do it now

The Dodgers are going to be tough competition.

Maybe we should stay under the cap and just sign efficient, less-shiny classes the next three years.

Screw that. We are playing on a different level now.
