how do the dodgers have infinite money?

They probably have the wealthiest ownership group in all of sports

Dang, even wealthier than some of the soccer teams?

I have no interest/knowledge of soccer teams/ownership but they are at least one of the wealthiest ownership groups of an American sports franchise

So far, we have:

OF Yonathan Sierra Estiwal - $2.5 million

SS Aramis Ademan - $2 million

SS Yonathan Perlaza - $1.3 million

C Miguel Amata - $1.25 million

3B Christopher Martinez - $1 million

RHP Yunior Perez - $600k

That totals up to $8.65 million just so far. The Cubs pool is $3,240,700 ($3,392,235 with the overage).

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Estiwal is a tall and lanky left-handed hitter and thrower with some raw power. He is often compared to a young Darryl Strawberry because of his swing. Scouts love how he plays.

And in related news, [expletive] you, letter J.

The Padres just signed a kid names Henry Henry. Reminds me of Jose Jose.

Talk was that Anderson Amarista was between the Cubs and the White Sox but that the Cubs were favourites. That may have changed.

Lets hope we can pull off Martinez. Wondering why the other deals (Brailyn Marques, Luis Diaz, 2 Asian players) are not being announced. Getting anxious!

it's at least conceivable that this kid was named after aramis ramirez, MLB baseball player

@MyKBO: Chicago Cubs sign Jangchung High School's Kwon Kwang-min for $1.2 million dollars per Sports Seoul. https://t.co/rHVv70wLky

If there's anybody who can read Korean, I'd love to know what the article has to say.

The translator in Chrome isn't perfect but it does a good enough job to get the gist of the article. Talks about how much he received, how the Cubs have been recruiting him since his sophomore year of high school, speaks to the difficulties he expects to face while acclimating to a new culture (which specific reference to the difficulties present in "MiLB baseball-life" which I thought was interesting), and he's excited to learn the English language and get started towards his dream of playing in the ML.

I think the Blue Jays corporate owners have more cash, but they are a corporation and not a bunch of filthy rich guys with money to spend for vanity purposes.

I wish The Ricketts were more like them then John Henry and the Fenway Sports Group.

Jorge Ona defected from Cuba but because MLB's rules are ridiculously dumb, he won't be eligible to sign in 2015-16 so the Cubs can't get him: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/jorge-ona-leaves-cuba/

Given Ona’s talent, the demand to sign him should be high, but he won’t be signing any time in the immediate future, and several big-market teams have already knocked themselves out of the mix. Not only is Ona subject to the international bonus pools, but he is also subject to Major League Baseball’s registration policy, which is that any international player born after Sept. 1, 1995 (like Ona) must have officially registered with the commissioner’s office by May 15 before the following signing period. Since Ona has missed the cutoff to be eligible to sign during the current 2015-16 signing period, which opened on July 2, he will have to wait to sign until July 2 next year during the 2016-17 signing period.

Luis Yander La O also defected. Very solid infielder that's 23. Won't require bonus pools. More of a defensive player though.

I know he's next year but figured I'd post here, from a recent ESPN article

The huge name for next year's J2 class is Venezuelan SS Kevin Maitan, a monstrous teenager with an elite body, advanced feel to hit and big-time power projection. He has been on the radar for international scouts for years and is being compared to some generational talents. A scout I talked to whose team has no prayer of signing Maitan said his club has an overall 70 grade on him, the sort of grade that players near the apex of top 100 prospects lists only sometimes garner. And three sources have told ESPN colleague Keith Law that the Atlanta Braves have already locked up Maitan for $4.25 million in advance of the July 2, 2016, signing period. As Keith noted, such deals are "technically prohibited but are de rigueur in that market."

Kiley McDaniel also confirmed a few weeks ago that Maitan was locked up by the Braves.

Not like the Cubs were in on him after this year's spending spree.
