If its anything more than 3 years I wouldn't do it. I am not sure I love the idea even at 3 years. He's not going to age well.

Two birds, one stone...

He's a lock to get 4 years, though probably not five. I'd guess $14 per. You may feel that's too much, fine, but I see no reason to expect he'll age worse than typical catchers, and he might hold up better. He's very athletic compared to most.

Catchers have worse aging curves than any other player. I hope the Cubs stay far, far away. Pay a coach $100,000/year to teach Wellington to frame, if it's that important.

We should pay another guy 100,000 to teach Baez to not strike out.

Great idea.

A 32 year old catcher is not getting 5 years. He might 3/40.

3/$15

If it only takes 3/15, sign me up. Five million a year is a bargain.

kyle was pretending to believe in the power of pitch framing before it was cool to pretend to care about the power of pitch framing

Just the opposite. I was super skeptical of it when it first started coming out and now I feel dumb.

well if questioning that the difference between montero and castillo's ability to catch a ball is 50 runs per season counts as skepticism, I guess i'm skeptical.

Welcome to the club.

Without considering pitch framing at all, Martin's been worth 9.4 fWAR the last 2 years. He's not signing for 3 years, and McCann money is not at all out of the question. I have no interest in giving that to him, but someone's going to give him a very large contract.

And I understand your inclination to write off pitch framing as nebulous sorcery. I really do. But when you consistently grade out as really terrible by everyone who evaluates such things, something is probably pretty wrong unless you think there's some sort of Welington Castillo conspiracy among these guys.

I don't doubt that he's terrible at it, I just doubt it's worth 25 runs a year or whatever.

[expletive] it; if they suddenly have the money and can swing it then I am [expletive] down.

No I don't EXPECT this, but if we added Lester, Masterson, Martin, Aoki, and Andrew Miller to this team....I'm guessing it puts us around 85-88 win expectancy?

Probably like 83-84. I feel like an 88 win expectancy is abnormally high. Can Aoki play CF? I feel as though the Cubs are only going after a guy that can play all 3 OF positions given Bryant's position is currently up in the air.
