wow

that's interesting

One would think it would be an ideal time to be the Cubs hitting coach, with all the young bats on the way. But if the team is doing whatever it can to keep Manny involved, having certain guys work with him specifically and promoting that fact, I could easily see how he would feel undermined as the hitting coach.

Bummer, seemed like Mueller did a pretty decent job.

@CSNMooney Bill Mueller was tight with Mike Brumley, the #Cubs assistant hitting coach who got reassigned and is weighing other opportunities.

@CSNMooney Cubs are said to be targeting an established hitting coach and won't be hiring a first-year guy.

@ESPNChiCubs Re Mueller, Manny will NOT be hired as the lead hitting coach. Still waiting for him to retire.

Theo's philosphy is to work the count, not try to jack the first pitch as we did in 2014. He was little help to the new kids(Baez, Lake, Olt) and most of the veterans like Castillo, Barney, etc.. were hacking. Soler gets it. Hard to rate Mueller anything less than a C.

Yeah, definitely pissed about the progress Rizzo and Castro made.

Unless his philosophy in teaching was different than his personal philosophy in hitting, I can't believe he was the one telling them to "jack the first pitch". He had an OBP of .373 over 11 years in the ML and averaged 76K to 72BB per season.

Dusty Baker had a good BB:K ratio too.

Didn't Mariano Duncan and Javy have a really good relationship? I don't know if a minor league hitting coach is the type of experience they're looking for though.

Should we be excited, angry, content with this hire?

Don't think you should be either of those extremes no matter what.

That said, it looks like a perfectly fine hire to me.
