Since 2008, the Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants and Phillies have made up 12 of the last 13 NLCS appearances. The Giants are now 7 innings from making that 13 of 14. Only the 2011 Brewers have broken the cycle.

Would love to have a player who could give me a PA like that in that situation.

Some fun facts:

-Since 2003, the Cubs last playoff win, the Cardinals have won 53 postseason games. The Cardinals have been in 6 NLCS’s, 4 World Series and won 2 World Series in that span.

-Dating back to the Cubs first season in 1871 they have only won 28 total postseason games compared to the Cardinals’ 53 in the last 10 years. So in a 10 year span, the Cardinals might double the Cubs postseason win total they’ve accumulated in their 143 year history.

-If the Cardinals were to win the World Series this year, Mike Matheny would be 1 playoff win shy of the Cubs franchise postseason win total

-MLB playoff wins since 2010:

Cardinals and Giants - 56

Rest of the NL-30

In the last 15 seasons, that's 9 NLCS appearances for the Cardinals.

How about this one:

The Cubs have finished in fifth place the last five seasons. The Cardinals have not finished below fourth since 1990.

And of course we're up to 53 playoff wins and counting since the last time the Cubs won a playoff game.

I'm seriously beginning to think maybe we should just throw in the towel on the whole rivalry and aim at someone more realistic.

Lost in the first round ONCE in their last 9 playoff appearances.

The Cardinals had a pythagorean record of 83-79 this year. Sound similar? They won the World Series with an 83 win team in 2006.

Well almost every manager is terrible, so there are good odds that some of them make the playoffs
