Woah. SC beat Georgia and ECU and had a bad game but still won handily at vandy. They ave up two special team touchdowns. But seriously ECU and Georgia give SC the best win resume in collage football, by far. ECU pounded Va Tech and UNC in consecutive road weeks after sC beat them at home.

SC is a very good team. A&M SC and Oregon are the only three teams in FBS with legit wins over an elite team.

First off, I never said SC wasn't a very good team. There's a difference, though, between a very good team and a sure-fire national contender elite team that people (myself included) thought they might be before the season started.

On their resume, I've not seen much from Va Tech to think they're all that good. They weren't expected to be very good and the only reason people thought they were is because they beat a Braxton-less Buckeyes team. Since then, they've lost 2 straight - including an ugly game at home vs Georgia Tech. ECU might be a good team, but they've not proven much yet.

I'm not making any declarations about SC, I'm just saying their stock has dropped from elite to something less because they haven't done what elite teams should do yet (not get blown out by TAMU, blow out Vandy, handle ECU and play a bit of defense against UGA).

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney: "We're 0-2 versus Clemson. That's the bottom line."

Last year, he also said he thought Clemson would beat FSU 5 times out of 10 after they got blown out.

I can agree with the fact Clemson absolutely should have beaten FSU without the reigning heisman award winner in a game that FSU looked atrocious in.

However Georgia dismantled Clemson in every way you can dismantle a team led by Todd Gurley and Chubb who combined to run for like 400 yards vs Clemson.

Getting ground into submission by a rushing attack is not beating yourself it's the other team beating you.

ECU beat UNC handedly, but it was at home (did win 55-31 in 2013 at Chapel Hill, though).

The Arkansas run game concerns me but I think the Aggies will win by about 10-14. Should be a fun game.

Talk about a clash of styles. What gives me hope is that Rice seemed to be very effective running the ball against you guys, and Ark has one of the best rushing attacks in CFB. B Allen has looked like a different QB this year. What worries me on D is our inability to defend the screen pass, which aTm should do all day. Our O line should dominate, and some 8 minute drives in the first half could tell us if this will be a game or not.

Btw, both teams are in the top 5 in scoring offense this year, expected for aTm but a surprise for a running team like the Hogs. Yes, a fun game to watch.

Due to minor injuries we've been resting some players on D that will play against Arkansas. Plus we got a couple key players back from some more serious injuries last week against SMU. Our starting front 7 is pretty good but we don't have a ton of depth, especially at LB.

ECU is a good example of why the recruiting rankings are [expletive] below the 4 and 5 star level. I've watched 3 ECU games this year and they are absolutely loaded with talent on offense. There reviewing core is as athletic almost any team in the nation. I doubt ECU has turned in a top 50 class over the past 5 years.

Then you watch a team that's always in the top like michigan or Florida doesn't seem to have a single playmaker on the field.

ECU's seniors are 4-7 against power conference teams(2-6 entering the year) and are 1 for 3 at winning more than 8 games. They may in fact be very good this year, but skepticism of their quality is hardly some indictment of recruiting rankings.

Let's leave the first two years off as it's not fair to judge a class based on freshman and sophomore wins.

Last year they played UNC and NCST on the road (both wins) and Va Tech at home (10-15 loss). Total score differential +33.

This year they played in Columbia (23-33 loss) in Blacksburg and home vs UNC +27 total differential.

That's 4-2 and +60 against power 5 over the last two years. They have been impressive on paper but it's the eye test that makes me question the recruiting rankings. Watching their games they are loaded with talent.

The recruiting rankings rely too heavily on whose recruiting the players. If Tennessee and Georgia offer a player he's a 3 star, if ECU and coastal carolina offer him he's a 1 star. There's a big bias there. The big schools screw up on players all the time.

UCLA has been very underwhelming. I'm surprised they are 4 pt favorites tonight. Taking Scum Devil money line for the upset in Tempe tonight. Place will be absolutely rocking. Been to a game there and it's a solid home field.

Is there some new rule where teams playing on Thursday nights have to wear the ugliest uniforms ever?

OK St looks like a highway construction barrell at night. TTU looks like Louis L'Amour threw up on their road uni's.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing those 14 points Arizona State gave up in like 45 seconds of game time will play a role in the outcome. #analysis

Just missed it.

Mississippi State senior C Dillon Day suspended for the A&M game. I work and live in and around MSU people and I've yet to hear ONE state the obvious: that this was CLEARLY intentional. I realize that people put on doofus goggles in defense of their team, but c'mon...

That place certainly was anything but rocking. Could hear the 8-clap throughout the fourth quarter.

Hope UCLA can beat Utah next weekend so we can have a top-10 showdown between Oregon and UCLA the weekend after.

So Barry Alvarez discussed his process for the playoff committee. Apparently the two national polls are not relevant to him or the committee chairman and he is not looking at margin of victory. Him and a stats person on staff at UW are working together to determine his opinion on the playoff teams.
Posted
That's kind of misconstruing what he said, though. What he said was that margin of victory in a vacuum is useless. His specific example was scoring 30 points against a team that averages giving up 10 is more impressive than scoring 50 points against a team that averages giving up 55. He's looking more at relative scoring margin than margin of victory, and mostly ignores polls (and good on him for it).

If all goes as planned, we should see a lot of qb Jeremy Johnson and rb Roc Thomas today in the Auburn-Louisiana Tech game. They will be the face of the Auburn offense next season, and I'm hoping Roc plays his way into the regular rotation by the end of this season.
