Week 2: Bears (0-1 wtf) @ 49ers (1-0) Sun Night 7:30 PM NBC

I think the Emery-Trestman connection is key. As much as Trestman is off beat in NFL terms... So is Emery. And the guy who hired Emery is basically an accountant. I don't see anyone's bosses getting too trigger happy.

They're all tied together for this year and the subsequent 2 seasons unless they win less than 4 games in any of the next 2. MAYBE if they go 4-12, 4-12 they'd be gone before that 3rd season, but this is an organization that let Dave Wannstedt coach 6 seasons and Dick Jauron 5 seasons. Not to mention they ran out their 2nd or 3rd best coach in franchise history after a 10 win season to get Trestman in there. I doubt they pull the plug after 2 or even 3 years unless it's a complete and utter disaster.

Edit: Originally had Jauron at 7 seasons, changed to 5.

Lmfao. Between Briggs getting lit up, Collins doing some sort of waltz, some unidentifiable DL helplessly trying to avoid eating turf, Urlacher getting manhandled, and Conte's "Oh [expletive], better cover this guy" dash...this is probably my favorite Bears gif of all-time now.

This is 5 defensive guys all getting destroyed in their own individual way.

Pretty sure that's Amobi Okoye.

This team would be awesome with Lovie as HC and trestman as OC. Even with Tucker as DC.

Almost happened but we got Terry Shea or whoever Lovies first OC was.

But even trestman couldn't quarterback whisper Jonathan Quinn.

Who else did we go through that season. Jeff George and Kordell Stewart?

No Rex started and looked ok abut got hurt running in a TD at te end of a game in minny in week 3. They abandoned Quinn after a couple weeks and Craig krenzel was in for a stretch of decent football until he got hurt or lost the job I think he got hurt and brought on the chad Hutchinson era.

Lovies bears defense from 2004-2010 and a healthy rex leading a trestman offense would have been badass and result in potentially a SB.

Worst ESPN article I've read in a long time.

Here are some highlights:

So I was racking my brain trying to think of a name for whatever it is that afflicts Cutler when I realized the Bears have given him everything he has ever asked for, and yet somehow Mr. Grumpypants still isn't satisfied or comfortable or the least bit grateful.
Cutler has a nearly flawless, smooth and compact throwing motion and a crazy once-in-a-lifetime canon of an arm. It is so remarkable, in fact, that with it Cutler has managed to seduce even the wise and hardened fan base of Chicago for more than six years.
Which means, given his track record of leadership, the only franchise Cutler should be running is a Denny's.
Jay Cutler has GLD, Goldilocks Disorder.

The Bears (get it?) and their fans can continue to provide all the expensive, soft, cushiony support they can muster for Cutler.

Never heard of the guy. I'm assuming he lost a close fantasy match up because of a Cutler interception. Why someone would be so angry about a QB in the NFL is just stupid and weird.

I'm not terribly optimistic about this game, even less so after last weekend's debacle. But assuming that the bears do lose this game, what events from this game would make you bearish (pun totally intended) on the rest of the season?

Not as worried about the offense, but I'd like to see Cutler not force things and play a game like he did against the Lions on MNF in 2011, i.e. odds stacked against him but him making smart decisions and playing efficiently.

Defense.... uh, maybe hold the niners to fewer than 4 yards a car hahahaha not a chance

Niners 28

Bears 17

I watched the SF Dallas game and sf does not have a great defense. Dallas moved the ball pretty easily and would have put up a ton of points had Dallas not blown it in the red zone.

I expect the bears to be able to move the ball and for gore and kaepernick to absolutely destroy the bears defense.

I think the line can shut down Gore. It's Kaepernick that we will probably have trouble with out of the pocket. Unless Tucker changes his defensive scheme to include LB's actually do something on defense.

Yeah you are making judgements on one game though. Just like SF will look at our tape and be like "wow we can run all day on those guys". Oh wait, dammit they will.

Complaining about yet another hyperbolic sports article is like complaining about clouds in the sky. Yeah people continue to do it, but it's pointless nonetheless.

If they shut down Gore and Hyde, it'll be because they commit resources to the middle. So yeah Kaepernick will kill them on the outside because of that. They can also do a number of others things to take advantage of that, as you know.

GD this conversations sucks.

Sorry, I feel like it's my fault.

If the Bears managed to win this game, think how much that changes the complexion of the rest of the season.

The formula for a Bears win starts with time of possession and ends with the game being high scoring. If the Bears offense can move the ball and get a lead SF may feel the need to pass the ball which the Bears have a better chance of stopping or at least slowing down.

Anyway, I find it disturbing that you remember that whole thing.

I definitely remember Rex getting off to a decent start in the first game or two and tearing up his knee in Minnesota. Think he played vs GB and Detroit and we lost to Detroit at home and beat GB at Lambeau. I remember Rex scrambling around and making a couple plays outside the pocket. Mike Brown's fumble return. That is basically all I remember of that season as I almost entirely blacked out the Quinn/Krenzel/Hutchinson games.

I think Hutchinson may have had one monster good game at some point out of nowhere.

Hutchinson had a very good game in his first start as a Bear at home against Minnesota in a win. I remember this because I was at the game and everyone was shocked. His performance deteriorated from there and the Bears didn't win a game the rest of the year.

Krenzel absolutely sucked but the Bears somehow managed to win 3 games in a row. I forget the first one, but the second was in NY against the Giants when we sacked Warner like 10 times, and other was in Tennessee where we won with a safety in OT. Quinn was even worse than Krenzel, culminating in the worst game in NFL history. Krenzel vs the Cowboys Quincy Carter on Thanksgiving.

Marshall didn't practice other than the walkthrough and some light jogging. Jeffrey did, but was limited. Both are questionable for Sunday. Josh Morgan had a setback with his groin and is doubtful for Sunday. Bears will probably promote Bellamy and Boggs from the practice squad by tomorrow.
