I'm currently in Hawai'i and was on a tour of the volcanoes in the Big Island. This girl from St Louis was talking to a young married couple from Toronto about all the awesome reasons to visit St Louis, like a lot of the museums are free and sometimes a good band is in town. The two from Toronto sounded genuinely interested in visiting. I didn't have the heart to warn them.

3-4 trip with Rizzo sitting for the majority is actually respectable, but [expletive] I wanted so much more.

It's hard to be happy about a fall from ahead loss to the Cards, but the fact that it helped to [expletive] over the Brewers makes it that much easier to swallow.

Whatever. The Pirates need to win the division.

As someone who lives here, there really is a lot of cool stuff to do, especially if it's a family vacation.

Sounds like it was still bothering him this weekend, but only during some baseball activities. If they were in the playoff hunt I bet he would've been on the field, although maybe not every inning/game.

Forest Park/Grant's Farm is a pretty cheap day with kids.

I'm sorry, if you have only 2 or 3 weeks vacation a year and you use some of it to go to SAINT LOUIS, you have failed miserably.

Spoken like true Australian hipster with no kids.

eh. i'd never go on any vacation to a random midwestern city that isn't chicago, kids or no kids.

if i couldn't afford better, i'd do the staycation thing in chicago. if i could afford better, i'd do better.

obviously going for a day or two over a weekend to catch a baseball game or two is sort of the exception.

Or, a person with taste.

The important thing here is that you get to feel better about yourself for other people's decisions, so everybody wins.

No, he said Australian.

I also don't see why St Louis is some sort of Mecca for people with kids. Sure, if I lived in Peoria or Springfield I'd load the kids in the car and go there, but I don't understand why someone from Toronto or New York or anywhere outside the Midwest would go out of their way to visit St Louis with the fam.

I'm from the Philly area, and I can come up with at least 20 places off the top of my head that I would visit with kids before St Louis. Mainly because of proximity (like the Jersey shore or Hershey Park), but some (I.e. Disney world) are just obviously more interesting to kids.

I guess it's better than Cleveland, though.

Because there's a bunch of interesting stuff to do, especially for kids, and you can do a lot of it without breaking the bank. The zoo, the Arch, Grant's Farm, City Museum, Science Center, Magic House, Botanical Gardens and the brewery tour are all pretty centrally located and not terribly expensive. Just because they aren't things you'd be interested in doesn't mean they're not pretty fun things to do on a family vacation.

And quit making me defend St. Louis, it makes me feel dirty.
