Although it might have been mentioned earlier in this thread. Trestman called a horrible two minute drive at the end of the game. He played for OT, they could run all day against a horrible run defense and on 3 and 1 with one star receiver hobbled and another one injured, they try for a pass. Worst case, they don't get it and let the clock run out and then use the TO or if they get the 1st, spike the ball and get a couple of chance at the end zone with the TO if there's a sack.

I was convinced they were going to run another "draw" type play on that one.

They weren't ok. Have to factor in that Buffalo sucks. Oh and EJ Manuel threw for a career best completion percentage. This was the same crap as last year a and the Bears had better DT and SS play than they did at any point last year.

I thought the line in particular played very well. Lance Briggs had a terrible game and, because of two plays, gave up 85 of Buffalo's 193 yards on the ground. He completely missed his assignment on each of those long run plays.

D Line still needs more pressure, but I thought they played a better game than people are recognizing.

In what way? They didn't get pressure and were more or less non-factors. Not being as awful as last year's line doesn't make them ok, let alone qualify as playing well.

Paea made a couple good plays early (literally first 2 plays), Ratliff made a couple plays in the 2nd half, Young looked really good early. Allen had 1 play where he forced Manuel out of the pocket. I thought Sutton looked good in limited snaps. But overall, that's just not good enough.

Yeah, I feel like we are measuring it against last year to a certain extent. That can't be the measuring stick. I wasn't throwing stuff at the TV because of them, except on the couple long runs (man, Briggs blew that one so bad...) and the fact that Manuel sat untouched most of the game.

The play calling (and Jay's execution) were definitely bad once Jeffery and Marshall were hobbled. Know your personnel and don't try spoon feeding guys like Spurlock when you still have Fortr.

why the hell is he so bad in that dept now? did urlacher have to tell him where to be 100% of the time or something?

Him chasing the mobile QB indicates to me he might be trying to improvise and his declining athleticism plus lack of quality teammates covering for him, are making him pay.

Must be. He's been horrible at reading and diagnosing plays since Urlacher has been gone. Doesn't help that he's lost a couple of steps and a better supporting cast was able to cover up some of his (and other players') mistakes.

Trying to remember how he did in 09 now, heh.

I thought Briggs basically told the LB coach to let him run the meetings cause he knows the defense and other offenses so well

i had never heard this

all i remember was him very publicly reluctantly taking on the role as the lead guy once urlacher was gone.

after very publicly saying he was sick of being the second guy and wanting the lead dog* role

Bernstein or someone on the Score has been saying this since last year

At first glance: Terrible game for the WRs (Holmes was the 4rd lowest rated WR out of 124 that played yesterday) and DBs, great game for the Offensive Line. Also, Forte with a -1.3? Must have been a terrible blocker yesterday...

How in [expletive]'s name did Briggs rate a positive number? He got blown off the ball the entire first half and made the very well dissected horrible read in the second. Losing respect for PFF's system.

He missed one block in about 30 drop backs. I don't get this rating either.

Though I do agree that Ratliff was a beast yesterday.

these ratings, especially in one game, have to be taken with a large grain of salt.

Wrong. The story was told that last year's LB coach was some bum (name escapes me) I believe from the CFL with Trestman that was never a NFL LB coach and he basically had no idea how to run Lovie's system of defense. So Lance had to command the LB room and run many of the meetings. That coach was fired, taking the hit for Mel Tucker along with Mike Phair, last year's Dline coach.

That's what I meant. Briggs knew the defense better than the coach.
