I'm glad they signed Jay. There were no better options. But he is what he is: a guy who isn't a particularly smart QB and has failed to live up to his potential.

He is who he is, sure, but that's nowhere near who he is.

Has there been a QB who at 31 became the player everyone thought he could be? If not, that will be the last word on Jay.

Kurt Warner, Rich Gannon, Joe Thiesmann, Warren Moon...

As was stated before, Moon and Warner never had the chance.

That's irrelevant to your point, if you're saying age has something to do with it.

I think it's assumed you can't blame a guy for not peaking until age 30 if he is bagging groceries in his 20s.

Love how some of you are so savvy and SABR-oriented with baseball and go full meatball when it comes to football.

Also, the Fox MLB playoff commercials with Steve Bartman all over it were dumb.

It appears Cutler will go down as one of those very talented players who simply doesn't make it happen.

He either blows games like today or he gets on a really nice roll & then gets injured.

Or he has to learn another system. Or a bunch of other injuries hurt him.

It's a combination of untimely mistakes bad luck. It's not one thing. But if he was going to be one of the top producing QBs and a big winner it would have happened

Saying a QB is a "big winner" is almost as stupid as saying a starting pitcher "knows how to win".

The point is he's putting up numbers but it's not translating.

Don't give me that weak starting pitcher comparison crap. That's not where I was going with it.

It's not translating because it's a team sport. QB stats don't translate directly to wins. That's why it's a stupid point.

He had a ton of yards and pissed them away with 2 terrible mistakes that were 100% on him.

You're just off target on this one.

The first INT was definitely on Martellus.

I used to get really worked up over Bears losses, especially bad losses at home like today, but I don't know... it's just whatever for me.

I think the GB game last December really numbed me.

Who were the other guys we could have hired instead of Marc?

Arians is the primary one that comes to mind

Him and Darrell Bevell were the other 2 finalists along with Trestman.

Why do people do such gymnastics to defend Jay all the time? exactly how good are we supposed to think Cutler is? Hes pretty good most of the time but are we supposed to think hes one of the 4-5 best QBs in the league?

Was today the kind of play that you want from Cutler?

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on Tony Romo.

Also, we're totally going 0-16 and everyone should be traded for the highest draft picks possible right now.

Bruce Arians, who was the 2012 NFL AP coach of the year. But Emery went out of the box. What Trestman did for the offense was better than expected. He did his job on offense. But if he's going to be the offensive Lovie who can't hire a D coordinator, then the Bears are no better.

Jay is a cool guy who doesn't care and is funny during interviews and throws hard and that's why people like him. He's a slightly better than average QB who I hope realizes his potential. But not a bet I'd make.

I think most people wish we had Romo instead of Jay.

At least Mccown just threw a horrible pick in the red zone when 3 pts would probably seal a win.

Nah I'd rather have Jay, warts and all

Because he's loaded with talent, for one.

Second, be honest. When Cutler leaves the strong likelihood is, we are going into another era of mediocrity @ QB.

People want it to happen, there's nothing wrong with that.

If he goes 34/49 with 360 yards often we'll probably win a lot.

Romo is the fifth-highest rated passer of all time, but I think Romo and Cutler each have one playoff win

This is the argument I don't get with people defending Cutler, especially in this age of rookie QBs coming in and having success relatively early. It seems like it was also the argument for him to get that contract, so now you really are kind of stuck with him. He's like Testaverde, a QB who can make a nice little career based on his talent but makes too many mistakes to play at a high level consistently and get a team home field and/or in the SB. It's why Dallas has been saddled with 8-8 for eternity.

I think Romo is an above average QB who is stuck behind a shitty OL.

You guys won't go 0-16. Dallas isn't even the worst team in that division (Washington).
