O's Hangout is hilarious, haha.

It is indeed.

What, the arguing in the Arietta thread? Eh, nothing drastically different than you'd expect.

One of them in their game thread said something to the effect of "I'll give the Cubs credit, they don't swing at a lot of pitches and have good plate discipline"

If only they looked at the box scores from the last couple of weeks

man that damn game thread is awful. I almost forgot what it was like reading the thoughts of people who are extremely emotionally invested in each individual game.

Hahaha, 2nd to last in the NL in OBP (.298), most strikeouts in the NL, 10th in the NL in walks

Yeah, just about everything they said about the Cubs was the opposite of the truth.

Where is the OH game thread? I could only find the Jake Arietta thread.

It's in a different forum, kind of like how our Game Threads are in a seperate area

The thread where they talk themselves into outrage about Baker blocking the plate is just delightful. A+ would read again

I was greatly amused at how much they said the opposite of what was true about the Cubs.

Len and JD were comparing that play to the one in the White Sox-Giants game and they said the catcher in each game was in a similar position. But doesn't the path of the runner matter? Because the Giants runner was coming right down the line while Davis was coming in at an angle (and one of the replays showed Davis as having a lane to the plate based on where he was coming from).

The biggest difference I saw(and I'm surprised Len and JD didn't pick up on it) were the throws. In that White Sox game the catcher had a foot covering the plate despite having to move to the first base side to catch the throw. Baker was in front of the plate until the throw skipped on the 3rd base side and he had to move towards the baseline to field the throw, which is exactly what the rule allows for.

For reference, this is the Giants/White Sox play at the moment Flowers catches the ball, which is when his left foot should be furthest from the basepath.

The Cubs play is harder to get on video, but here's Baker when the ball bounces:

Your point on the paths of the runners is relevant here as well, the Giants runner is going straight down the line, and Davis is so wide that he's never obstructed until Baker has to extend to catch the throw.

O's fans were beyond annoying in my section today and I even thanked them for Jake. That team never ever had that kind of support when I lived in the DC area so I am suspect. It just reminds me how awful it's gonna be when the Cubs start winning and d-bags jack up prices even further. Seeing a JavyBomb in person was a delight.

Reading that game thread of theirs is gonna make it that much sweeter when they get swept in the ALDS.

Not sure when you were there, but that organization had plenty of years where they were at or near the top in attendance (especially post-Camden) and often went neck and neck with the Yankees for top payroll in baseball. They went through a ridiculously bad streak of losing, and losing big, and it hurt their attendance, but they have a legit base of support.

Plus DC is a weird area; it's a hugely transient population with people from all over the country, so looking at that as being the Orioles' fanbase as opposed to Baltimore itself and Maryland just doesn't work to begin with.

Balmer is very provincial and has a terrible inferiority complex. If Chicago is the 2nd city, Balmer suffers in the region because it's not DC and not Philly. One person describes it as "it's where you dump your McDonald's trash coming back from a Redskins game'. They hate out of towners, especially Chicagoans, because Bob Irsay was from Chicago and it it tore the heart out of the city when he moved the Colts.

They're still mad that 'The Sun' took 'Baltimore' off the masthead because research indicated Balmer was regarded as a small city. And O's fans wanted 'Baltimore' on the road jerseys, not just the 'Orioles'. The team refused.
