Justin Steele: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Pretty rare for a HS pitcher that wasn't drafted in the 1st round to dominate like he has right out of the gate, even in the AZL.

16.1 IP, 21 K, 5 BB, 0 HR

Justin Steele throws 3 scoreless for AZL #Cubs, replaced by Carson Sands. FB up to 93, sat at 90.

Austin Reed did it a few years ago.

Conway has been good at preventing runs but his K rate has been Daury Torrez-like. McNeil has just been flat out terrible.

Oh yeah jeez, I just totally read another players stats for McNeil. not sure how I swung that.

maybe you're thinking of ryan williams.

Yes, that is what I managed to do... somehow. Speaking of which, what did he profile as coming out of the draft?

Also, (presumably) final line for Sands: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Sands and Steele combine for 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K

Sands and Steele should be forced to piggyback start their entire time in the minors.

I didn't even notice him until rawaction pointed him out earlier today. He was at ECU with Jeff Hoffman. Wasn't in the BA top 500 so it's pretty hard to find any kind of scouting report.

@billazbbphotog: Carson Sands & Justin Steele both need 1 more 3-inn outing to qualify for AZL top 20 list in @BaseballAmerica. Difficult decisions ahead.

The 90/93, he's talking Steele, right?

Yes. Here's what he said about Sands:

@billazbbphotog: Carson Sands also pitches 3 scoreless for AZL #Cubs, w/ 2 H. FB up to 92 and threw nice curveball. Cubs did well w/ 4th & 5th rnd picks.

OPPO GRAND SLAM ADDISON RUSSELL

That is second grand slam and 10th HR at TN this season.

He is 2-4 with a 2B, HR and 5 RBI tonight. Batting .303 with a .909 OPS

Castro had a better OPS in Tennessee at the same age

Stole this from PSD on CJ's start from someone who was there

The numbers don't tell the whole story. There were a least four different Biscuits players who struck out on C.J.'s breaking pitch and they went back to the dugout disgusted.

C.J. gave up two hits, a hard single to left field and a bunt that refuse to go foul on the third base side. It hug the dayum line. But after those two hits, C.J. went K, K, poput caught by Lars Anderson to end the threat. That was it for him for the night as he was replaced by Loosen.

C.J. worked in the 88-93 range, touched 96 mph several times. To me, he was at his absolute best when he was in the 88-93 range. All in all, a good night for C.J.

Kyle Schwarber has had a 3-21, 2-15, and a 3-20 slump in the last month. But you'd never know it because between and since those 3 slumps he's gone:

16-38, 7 doubles, and 3 HRs

Not really any hype around him. Even in Greenville. I'm guessing Theo and Jed liked what they saw when they visited to see Hoffman.

This means nothing. He also only played 26 games and hit 1 HR and had a BABIP of .394.

Also fun, meaningless stat: Addison Russell currently has the same ISO at AA that Rizzo has in the majors at .238

true, but Russell already has more HR in 153 Tennessee AB than Castro did in 1000 MILB ABs

MILB career ISOs:

Russell - .224

Castro - .111

best prospect in baseball.

So basically, whichever Cub prospect has been putting up video game numbers lately is the best prospect in baseball. Late last year it was Javy Baez. Then at the beginning of the year it was Kris Bryant. Then during the middle of the season it was Jorge Soler. And now, at the end of the season it is Addison Russell. Fantastic!

with a BA-driven SLG and lesser peripherals. guys who are really good at see-ball-hit-ball do very well in the minors. that doesn't necessarily translate to the majors like an advanced approach and actual home run power, not that castro didn't translate well.
