Baker is listed twice, and you're missing Concepcion (1.2M) along with buyouts for Fujikawa (0.5M) and Veras (0.15M) I think Fuji has an option of like 5M, but I can't see any way it's picked up.

Thank you for proofing it for me. I corrected Baker/Concepcion.

I didn't include buyouts as I believe they are 2014 expenses. If Fujikawa's option is picked up I will add him.

Arrieta is arb eligible. He should be looking at a hefty raise.

Of the rest of the arb. eligible, Castillo and Wood are the only sure things. Probably Valbuena and Strop if not traded, and one of Wright and Russell. Ruggiano and Coghlan are likely going to spend the next 3 months auditioning.

Lot of $ available for the offseason.

Oooops. Cott’s listed Arrieta as having 2.145 years of ML service time. I took the .145 as fraction of a year and he would just miss. I went back to BP and saw its 145 days of service time, so it looks like he will be. Updated the first post.

i'd be shocked if they pick up Fujikawa's option.

Soler will be making half of what Rizzo makes next year, might as well bring him up and allow him to begin destroying opposing pitchers now, IMO.

There's been stuff come out about the debt structure that its an ACTUAL money outlay that matters. The prorating of salaries isn't necessary at this point.

Pro-ration of signing bonuses is a practice that long predates debt structure stuff. It's typically pretty obvious how teams are planning to budget that money(regardless of when it's paid). A guy paid 5/10/10/10 with a 5 million signing bonus is not having it treated the same as Jackson's 11/11/11/11 with 8 million signing bonus. Jackson is only owed 11 million cash, but in terms of how the Cubs are budgeting their payroll for next year, he almost certainly counts for 13 million.

I get that it's been around forever and certainly predates the debt structure. But that doesn't change the fact that every bit of Edwin's 8 mill was paid up front and counted in its entirety by the Cubs that season. Same with each of Castro, Rizzo, Soler, and anyone else that's had a signing bonus since Ricketts took over. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal, but it could be an extra 4-5 mill that we'll be able to use, if we're capped at a certain payroll.

Just because the debt structure exists now doesn't mean that they've switched to budgeting purely on cashflow.

I'm not going to sift through the billion articles Wittenmyer wrote on it, but I think they have.

I wonder what Arrieta is going to ask for in arbitration.

Hopefully it doesn't get to arbitration.
