the very real possibility that soler, baez, bryant and alcantara all own is so frightening that it's like you don't even realize we also have the no. 6 prospect in baseball, as well as almora who is hitting like 400 in the last month AS WELL AS THE SCHWARB.

jesus this really is insane isn't it

A few years ago, if guys like Vogelbach, Villanueva, and Candelario all sucked and Johnson and Edwards barely pitched due to injury, it'd be a disastrous farm season. Now, it barely even matters.

What is the skinny (HA!) on Vogelbach? What kind of trade value would he have?

I think he'd have more value as a secondary/ancillary piece as part of a larger deal than he would by himself. If that makes sense. By himself I don't think he brings a lot back and is probably more valuable keeping.

When Javy takes 3 months adjusting to MLB pitching, I wonder what the Cubs Facebook page will be like then...

Bring him up later this year. Do it. Unleash our Cuban at long last.

yes, this. his approach is already good. if he gets injured, he can do in chicago. there's also no need to worry about service time, either.

Every morning the first thread I check is the minor league game thread. It's so awesome.

So nobody thinks we keep him down until we're past super 2, to delay his opting out by 1 year?

When is the likely time that this is no longer an issue this year?

shouldn't super 2 thing have ended in June at some point? Unless he still qualifies as one of the 17%

Is Soler's contract like any other minor leaguers in reference to service time? I know/think there is an opt out clause after a few years, does that relate to service time?

I thought he had a straight up 6 year contract, thus service time did not matter?

His contract is structured in a way that he can opt out of it whenever he becomes arbitration eligible. Service time still matters, for both arbitration and free agency.

soler's monster HR last night

Is there an actual video clip somewhere?

Why would you set up picnic tables in the OF of a baseball stadium so that half of the seats would have their back to the field? Only a handful are positioned perpendicular to the field so everybody could look (not that anybody was sitting there).
