Other than Shaq in 1996, what elite players have the Lakers signed? Kobe was acquired as a rookie and stayed. Am I forgetting some elite players coming to LA?

Signed? Not many but superstars like Wilt, Kareem, Gasol and Howard have been forcing themselves to LA for years. I can only think of a few established superstars in their prime that have switched teams via FA over the last 20 years. Shaq in 96 (LAL), Grant Hill in 00 (ORL), Lebron and Bosh in 10 (MIA) and Howard in 13 (HOU). I'm sure I'm missing a couple though.

Fair enough, I was only thinking through signings but forcing trades works too.

I'm not sure the same argument can be made with the Knicks, though.

If the league is turning towards the grouping of stars, do you guys truly see Chicago being on equal footing as New York or LA?

In terms of what?

That if all things are equal in terms of contract being offered and basically the same chance at winning, Chicago is on a par with LA and New York, as far as where guys want to play.

What are the chances of "all things being equal"? I think most of it would depend on the player. For example, some guys don't like cold weather (Dwight). If Jabari becomes a FA, perhaps he would choose Chicago over LA or NY because he wants to play in his hometown. I guess I'm trying to say each situation is unique and it's difficult to say all things being equal LA>NY>Chicago. I would feel confident saying Chicago would probably be a top 5 destination for most 20 or 30 something year old athletes.

I really hate free agency

1. [Chicago Sports team] in on [big time free agent]

2. [Chicago sports team] favorite for [big time free agent]/[big time free agent] really wants to play for [Chicago sports team]

3. [Other sports team] in on [big time free agent]

4. [big time free agent] signs with [other sports team]

rinse, repeat.

I suppose signing for less is the cool thing to do these days. I hope Derrick pays the Bulls with the next contract he signs.

Reggie and B.J. will never let that happen.

A Yahoo Sports report stated Anthony also planned to reach out to Gasol to discuss him joining the Knicks, another in a growing set of signs that Anthony may re-up in New York. Joakim Noah, intimately involved in the Bulls' pitch to Anthony, has told several people he believes Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks.

Bulls will back into signing LeBron after Melo stays with NY. Melo will have this great look of surprise when he realizes he will never get out of the second round of the playoffs now.

Do the Love trade. Taj Butler and every first rounder for the rest of the decade.

Agreed. IMO they should be prepared to gut the team if they have to. Get Rose, Noah and Love together and figure out the rest later

Nba hell is your frot office falling in love with it's late first round lunch pale guys like Taj and Jimmy. Good players. Great draft picks. You can replace these guys with marginal downgrades to make room for a huge upgrade. Look at the spurs. Boris Diaw played 25mpg for them the past two years. They got him off the scrap heap. Taj is an awesome defender but there are lots of guys who defend very well. Jimmy is a good defender but is so limited offensively I'm not even sure he's worth half of what he's gonna get paid. It's a no brainer to move those guys, especially Jimmy, when the value is at such a high.

The defensive "reputation" that bulls players have (Noah, Butler, Taj, formerly Deng) is absurd. Deng was worthless on the Cavs last year. These guys are good defenders but the Thibs effect is causing them to be massively overrated defensively.

It sounds like Mirotic is on his way.

The Bulls are working on signing F Nikola Mirotic, sources told ESPN. He secured buyout today from Real Madrid according to @hoopshype

Offseason done.

If true, that pretty much ensures Melo is not coming here. Go get Love! Boozer (to 3rd team if they won't take his expiring contract), Taj, Jimmy, Snell, and every 1st round pick for Love and Martin.

Rose/Augustin (BAE)

Martin/Kirk

McBuck/MDJ

Love/Mirotic (MLE)

Noah/Smith
