One, hasn't Love said both that he's definitely going to test FA no matter what and that his preferred team is the Lakers?

There's been rumors the Lakers will offer up their lotto pick for him, to get him now. Sure, we can beat the offer, but do you do it without a long term commitment from him? I don't. Go hard after Melo, use Taj if you have to. Boozer preferred obviously.

Rose at 18.8, Noah at 12.2......Amnesty Boozer, use Taj, Dunleavy, future picks to do S&T for Melo. Melo at 18 mill. Butler and Snell are 3.5. Use 1sts on rotation guys Leaves about 10 mill prior to minimum level signings. Get Pau and bring Mirotic over the following year.

C Noah some old vet

PF Gasol pick

SF Melo Snell

SG Butler pick

PG Rose Augustine

I don't think Love has ever publicly said anything about who is preferred team is. Reports came out this weekend that he wants a big market (NY or LA). Then a report came out this afternoon stating his top priority is being able to win now (CHI or GS). I think the Bulls fit in well for both reasons. Is there a way to make salaries match without including Taj? I'd assume Minnesota would rather have Mirotic's rights and if you can keep Taj you can move him for a similar quality SG/SF. Someone like Afflalo?

Love is really good friends with Rose so I would think Chicago would at least have some kind of chance at him if Love was dictating where he was going.

Gibson, Snell, the Deng trade exception, and a number one for Love? Pretty sure we'd do it, but I'm not sure about Minnesota. We might have to add another no. 1, which is a steep price.

If we did pull it off, you amnesty Boozer, draft at 19, and go looking for veteran free agents to fill the remaining spots.

Rose

Butler

TJ Warren? / Rodney Hood? / Kyle Anderson?

Love

Noah

Dunleavy

Potential veteran FA additions (2nd-3rd tier, IMO):

PG: Steve Blake, DJ Augustin, Darren Collison, Luke Ridnour

SG: Anthony Morrow, Thabo Sefolosha, Ben Gordon, Marshon Brooks

SF: Shane Battier, Wesley Johnson, Jordan Hamilton, Anthony Tolliver

PF: Jason Smith, Elton Brand, Dante Cunningham, Trevor Booker

C: Jermaine O'Neal, Chris Kaman, Emeka Okafor, Gustavo Ayon

I don't think there was much if any exception from the Deng deal, plus you can't combine it. It's only useful if it's big enough to absorb an entire contract (if it even exists).

On the flip side, with the Boozer amnesty and our cap situation, if we're sending out Gibson, we likely can absorb his deal with cap space, but then we can't exceed the cap and get just the room MLE. And in the cap space scenario we would have waived any exceptions that exist.

But finally, we would have to offer more. Probably a few firsts to have any chance because we don't have any high value firsts.

Give them as many firsts as they want. Mid-level NBA picks are as worthless as MLB draft picks.

Yes you would give them as many picks as we could for KLove, but they are not as worthless as MLB draft picks. NBA draft picks are quite valuable, just not as valuable as a star player.

But that goes back to our additional picks just not really being that enticing to the Wolves.

Melo remains a more likely route to take (though still not a good chance overall).

I agree that Melo is the more likely route. According to ESPN we have trade exceptions related to Deng (about 2 mill) and Teague (1 mill).

Didn't realize we had one from Deng. They're worthless unless we forgo our cap space plan. If we did forgo our cap space, they're worth a trade for traded player(s) up to 2 and 1 M respectively. But for instance are not worth a 3M player together, nor worth a ~11M with Gibson. Gibson alone just using the TPE rules can absorb that much extra salary anyways.

Hearing that, if the Grizz totally clean house, the Memphis owner will look to trade for Tom Thibodeau + give him an SVG/Pistons-type deal.

PS: Bulls need assets for a run at Kevin Love, an extra 1st round pick would help. They'd hire Fred Hoiberg if Thibs got traded. Stay tuned.

If it wasn't already clear, its pretty obvious from the Bulls/Thibs silence and all the new rumors that keep coming up that Thibs is very much available. This would really suck.

It would be cool if it meant Love plus Hoiberg. Outside of that, I'm not really for trading Thibs.

Silence means everything here too. No comment about Thibs availability clearly means that he could be had for the right price.

So you're saying if [something happens] then [team X] will try to [big impact signing or trade] and [team y] would look to [big impact signing or trade]?

I'm not against Hoiberg if it comes with a star player. It'd be nice to help my favorite pro team and hurt one of my college team's rival at the same time.

It doesn't at all sound probable, but I'd take this hypothetical Thibs for Hoiberg + Love(extended presumably).

Plus Taj I would imagine. Any chance Mirotic can play SF?

If we were moving assets for Love, Thibs to LA makes more sense. Thibs and Mirotic to LA for their lotto pick and other assets. Any Memphis pick is no better than picks already at our disposal. And Mirotic holds no value in a Love deal since he won't sign in Min, but he would sign in LA. Now I'd prefer a Melo deal where we keep Thibs, but I'd play both and take the first, which is still probably Melo.

Bulls in a good position knowing that what 5 teams want Thibs. Great place to negotiate from. If Thibs was traded, how do you match salaries with a coach?

You don't actually trade a coach. You just get compensated for allowing a coach out of his contract.

Aggrey Sam on the radio said he thinks all these Thibs rumors are pie in the sky things, and that he doesn't think Thibs is going anywhere this offseason.
