If I felt like being a basketball bigamist, I'd definitely be cheating with the Spurs

Agreed. It's really hard for me to dislike anybody who's about to take out the Heat, but the Spurs just do everything so right they're just pretty hard not to, at a minimum, respect and just outright like.

It's crazy how they just pull in guys off the scrap heap and get them to perform over and over again. Parker and Green are 2-16? No big deal because Mills is going to score 20.

This is everything I dreamed it could be! The Spurs have managed to get 5 rings, but this will be their first against a legitimately good team.

It's a path to winning that I prefer over the Heat's.

I would argue that 2004-2005 Detroit was legitimately good. Defending champions who took six or less games to win each of their playoff series before playing San Antonio. They only had 54 wins that regular season, but they had the effects of the Brawl to deal with as well, and of course that's the exact same number of games that Miami won this year. Miami was still probably better, but it's closer than it appears on first glance.

It's going to be interesting to see what LeBron does this offseason. He gotta be thinking that he can't be on the same team with Wade anymore. At least not with him being the #2 guy. He's only 32, but his body has been breaking down for a couple years now. Only got 2-3 years left IMO. Bosh for the most part was alright as #3, but he can't be #2.

So what team have enough cap space he can go to and compete for a ring right away?

1. Mavs (31.9 mil under cap)- just have Ellis/Calderon on the books basically, have loads of $$$$, and Cuban is the owner

2. 76ers (30.6)- got a lot of young guys, but LeBron wants to win rings now

3. Lakers (25.9)- they got a chance cuz it's Lakers

4. Bobcats (18.3)- might be the most interesting team for LeBron if he decides to opt out, got Walker/Jefferson to help him out, but would take almost all the cap space unless he really takes a pay cut

5. Wizards (16.7)- just as interesting as Bobcats although he has to take a bigger pay cut (1.6 mil less cap space than Bobcats), but a team on the rise

6. Cavs (16)- make a great story

7. Spurs (9.3 if Duncan pick up his $10 mil player option)- why not? would only work if Duncan retires most likely

8. Celtics (6.9)- Ainge could possibly persuade LeBron to come IF he traded for Love and keep Rondo, but that's the only way IMO unless Ainge really shake things up

9. Pelicans (4.9)- Only thing going for them is Davis, but they're stuck with Gordon/Tyreke Evans/Holiday contracts

10. Heat (over the cap if Big 3 returns)- can offer most $ and 5th year plus Wade/Bosh could stay as well and 4 straight NBA Finals so far, but all 3 need to take a major pay cut so they can sign guys other than their MLE and min types

Everyone else either sucks, crappy market, or have to get creative to get under the cap enough to sign him (Bulls if they amnesty Boozer for example).

Props to Spurs though. That was one of the best Finals performance I've ever seen. Also a shout out to Tim Duncan. For him to get 5 titles over 15 years all for 1 team is just incredible.

He'd be an incredible fit on the Spurs with their system/style of play (I know he's the best player in the world he's gonna fit in anywhere). I actually brought up the other night during game 4 with some buddies how awesome a piece he'd be on the Spurs and he should legitimately consider going there if they can make it work. With his passing ability and being able to play PG-PF that team would be a monster.

If he went to the Spurs he would rightly or wrongly (rightly) be considered one of the worst sellouts in sports.

He already did that when he went to the Heat. It won't surprise anyone AGAIN if LeBron just goes to another good team so he can win instead of getting guys to come to play with him.

Not a surprise maybe, but he'll be raked over the coals with fans and media. He's one of the best but that's just one of the little things that keeps him a notch below the GOATS in my mind. That, and he has thrown in the towel a few times in his career.

The Spurs have to be the least revered great team in sports. How many years in a row with 50+ wins? 5 titles in 15 seasons? They're the New York Yankees of the NBA, and they're talked about less than the Knicks.

I don't think that matters as much as who they beat in order to get to the Finals in the first place.

Bulls went through that as well in some cases. They arguably faced greater challenges from / talent in the Pistons, Cavs (I almost feel bad for Price, Daugherty, Hot Rod Williams, Nance, etc.) and Knicks (one ore shooter and they probably win the championship in 94') than they did from the Lakers (Magic's last legs, Worthy and Scott were hurt, etc.), Suns (one year wonder with one all-time great in Barkley), and Sonics (pre-donuts Kemp and the Glove; collection of aged and limited role players; okay Detlef probably was better than I am giving him credit for). The Jazz (Stockton & Malone; Hornacek was vastly underrated; 'nuff said) and Blazers (they came close twice; people forget that they had the Bulls badly on the ropes in Game 6; Drexler, Porter, Kersey, Duckworth, Buck Williams, Cliff Robinson, and the underrated Robert Pack) teams they played were really, really good. I know they didn't win championships, but the only reason they didn't is because the best player / side-kick combo of all-time stood in their way.

Yesterday, maybe. Let's see how that shakes out today and moving forward.

I'm definitely classifying them differently now. I'm just a casual fan and I don't call in to radio shows, though :).

I STILL hear people say "man I hate seeing the Spurs win, they are so boring". Funny because they are actually one of the more enjoyable teams to watch in the league these days.

They really are. I hate watching NBA games because they tend to be so plodding and one on one, but the way the Spurs move the ball and their offense flows makes them very enjoyable to watch.

My guess is that casual fans don't understand any of that and simply want to see the show time stuff.

I'm going to try harder. Watching the Spurs this time was a lot of fun. And selfishly I kind of feel like the Bulls will need to follow this sort of model for awhile, and I'd obviously like it to work out.

One of them hasn't won a title in 40 years?

Yes, I know what your point was.
