@brucemiles2112 #Cubs put Veras on DL with left oblique strain, recall Schlitter from Iowa

Looks like Veras was cool with the fake injury after all. I'm honestly curious if he ever makes it back on the 25 man roster at this point.

Even if he does, how long would a new stint last?

Bigger waste, Veras or Scott Baker?

Oh god, Baker by a mile. I really do think Veras is injured - he's never been anywhere close to this ineffective during his career. Also unlike Baker, he still has some value when he returns. We should all hope he does in fact come back and have some success, so we can possibly trade him.

I think we should change the Cubs' motto from "Wait until next year" to "We should all hope he does in fact come back and have some success, so we can possibly trade him." It certainly seems to fit the 2012-2014 Cubs.

Then maybe when the guy that we get in return gets good, we can trade him too!

Is there any chance Veras IS really hurt? The injury referenced was an oblique strain, which usually comes from over use...and Veras wasn't being used at all. I just don't understand, if he's not really injured and we're going to lose 100 games anyway, why not keep throwing him out there and let him work through it?

Because he's not even close to being effective right now and it's going to take more than an occasional appearance to get it fixed. A DL stint where he can go down to AZ and work on mechanics or whatever the hell the problem is is probably the best solution for everybody. You have to think he's interested in signing another contract for next year so it's in his best interest to do whatever he needs to so he can actually find the strike zone again.

Right now it seems like "oblique strain" in baseball correlates to "upper-body injury" in Hockey.

Pretty much. Although, it is the same injury that Alex Cobb went down with, and he sure wasn't ineffective at the time.

Baker was also a full on gamble. They knew going in that his Cubs career was likely to end as it did, but he could have also have paid off to the same tune as Maholm and Feldman. Veres was hired to do a job.

I think they did expect Baker to get at least a half of a season in, probably more but he had a set back in spring as I remember.

I think they knew he might not be back to "normal", but I do think they thought they would be able to find out if he was.

Where was Coughlan before the call up? I didn't see him on the 40-man roster.

He wasn't on it. Fujikawa going to 60 day opened a spot for him. He was in Iowa

So does tone know hat happened to Fujikawa? He was pulled from that start in Arizona and never really heard anything about why. Anyone know?

I can't find the tweet now, but basically it mentioned that no, there is no news. He reinjured himself a couple weeks ago and hasn't been heard from since.

Yeah, usually we would have heard something about the nature of the re-injury by now. Wierd

Arizona Phil mentioned he hasn't seen Fujikawa since he got hurt. And Arizona Phil normally checks out side sessions and whatnot too.

He ruptured his UCL, not surprised he's still out. I'd be shocked if he comes back at all really. He is what, 34 years old? With a blown out elbow? Yea.
