Have any of you heard or care about the things/attitude Sammy has now? The dude is nuts. He calls for his own statue.

I loved him as much as any Cub fan, but I have ZERO problem with him being stiff-armed, until he has a shred of humility and changes his whole personality.

I don't really care that SF has welcomed Bonds back, or that McGwire is now a respected hitting coach and pushing around a crippled Kirk Gibson - Sosa and his ilk are crap. They are terrible role models for our kids, and a disgrace to the game. It was enough for Sandberg to backhand him in his HOF acceptance speech, and any Cub that I respect has little respect for Sosa. Kudos to the Cubs organization for taking out the trash.

I can't believe I'm obviously the only person on 4 pages saying this.

so, why exactly are you against him being welcomed back? i'm just asking because it appears that you can't put your finger on it either.

Why welcome him back? He walked out on his team and organization. For all we know (and we all know he wasn't clean) he is the symbol of what was wrong in the game during the steroid era, shaming himself by acting as if he couldn't speak English.

Sure, he was the "heart and soul" of the Cubs and the only bright spot for so many seasons. I enjoyed the PED Era as much as all of you, but I'm just not ready to let go of my disgust at what was done to MLB. Owners, players, and Selig - all garbage.

Sosa and everyone else did it for the money. They ruined the history of the game, which some of us respect.

Damn, he was fun to watch play, though. I don't care if they "reinstate" him to the inner circle of Cub Glory. I doubt he'd be accepted by that body - but what the hell did they do?

I just like to rant - who gives a f$#% what I think. I still love Sammy, but what the hell is he doing to himself?

For the last [expletive] time. Speaking shitty broken English to the media is a hell of a lot different than when you're in front of a Congressional hearing. When legal wording is involved and perjury is a very real outcome, it's in one's best interests to understand what the [expletive] is being said.

Yeah. I speak Spanish fluently. Grew up speaking it in my household and spoke it before I spoke English. I'd still feel uncomfortable in a setting like that if it were in Spanish only.

And even if he spoke perfect English, who cares? He answered every question.

Not gritty enough, he should have left those hearings with dirt on his threads.

so, you and the Cubs deserve an apology because:

1. he left work early once after a bad day at the office, after his day was done

2. SPEAK ENGLISH

3. he played baseball for money, as well as "everyone else", and entertained people in the process

i'm not getting a real reason, here. sammy owes you nothing, he owes the cubs nothing, he owes the fans nothing. whatever crimes he committed he's more than paid for.

go [expletive] yourself.

yeah, a perfect example is Pete Rose. a man who got so in debt to bookies that he probably threw baseball games to get himself out.

people still don't understand how THAT is an actual offense that attacks the true integrity of the game. but because he's white, gritty, and played hard he should be reinstated.

I understood why Wood and whomever were pissed at Sammy for the Game 162 incident inasmuch as that was probably the tip of the "animosity iceberg". I'd wager Sammy had an acrimonious relationship with his teammates that went back much farther. Not saying Wood and/or the Cubs handled it the best way possible, just saying.

That said, time for everyone to move on.

Sammy is pretty freaking scary looking, though.

I'd have a lot more respect for the Cubs if Julian Green said they didn't invite him because he was afraid he'd eat his soul

Or invite him to whatever cult he's joined

his teammates from 2004 being fed up with him in the locker room isn't a reason for the current organization to require an apology or anything else from sammy. i mean, i guess they can do what they want because it's their team, but to treat a guy who WAS cubs baseball for a decade like a criminal and demand a token of contrition, is stupid and wrong.

Yeah that's what pissed me off the most. Where was Julian green in 2004? Was he even in the organization?

Hired in 2011 after a stint with MillerCoors. According the press release, he was the Obama Senate campaign's press secretary during the time of the "incident". Looks like he got his start with Daley sometime prior to 2003 and moved over to Miller Coors somewhere around 2007.

Its frustrating the Cubs folks are making the whole situation very impersonal and hard to pinpoint exactly who or what is keeping Sosa from being around.

“I think any type of discussion along those lines will really have to balance how people feel about that, too. As you guys know, that issue brings up so many emotions with so many different people.”

In the absence of any of these 'people' being identified, I have to assume this is coming from the Ricketts themselves who had nothing to do with the team at the time. Everyone else speaking is just part of a big PR game.

Very true. However, #1 there is nothing that says that happened. #2 What Pete Rose the manager did, doesn't change what Pete Rose the player did.

I have little doubt this is coming from our spineless, misguided owner.

He might have at least come out and said it himself from the start instead of hiding behind one of his little stooges.

Decent points, try not being such a [expletive].

I'm pretty baffled that people adamant enough about Sosa to make an 8 page thread about all this.

Does it help the Cubs win? No?

I thought you didn't care.

I don't care about Sosa. I care when someone makes an unfair comparison.

Frohman gave his opinion on the subject, and it was against the grain of everyone else's opinion. I would say that's not being a dick compared to telling someone to go [expletive] themselves.

Can you see how those two things are different?

Frohman made an impassioned idiotic post and got called out on it. Then you pretended you were too cool for school while contributing to the length of a thread you were baffled could be this long, before exposing yourself as a liar.
