4/18: http://www.thecubreporter.com/04182014/cubs-giants-do-splits-riverview-park

Gleyber Torres 3/4 with two doubles and 2 stolen bases while Jeffrey Baez went 2/3 with two singles, a walk and 4 stolen bases.

4/19: http://www.thecubreporter.com/node/3905

RHP Dallas Beeler got the start for the Cubs and pitched four innings (63 pitches - 44 strikes), allowing one run (earned) on four hits (two singles, a double, and a triple) and two walks with four strikeouts and a 7/1 GO/FO. The only run he allowed resulted from a lead-off triple in the top of the 1st inning followed by a one-out RBI single. Beeler retired eight of the last nine men he faced.

Beeler appears to be finally turning the corner after a lengthy "dead arm" period that landed him on the AAA Iowa Cubs 7-day DL (and left him behind at Extended Spring Training) to start the season. He probably will need at least one or possibly even two more EXST rehab starts before he is ready to rejoin the I-Cubs. but he looked a lot better today than he did in ihis previous start last Monday when he was cuffed around a bit.

Bases loaded HBP for Bruno. This is starting to fascinate me.

Was looking for photo or video to see how close he stands to the plate...there's not a single video on YouTube of a Stephen Bruno plate appearance at any level that I can find.

@bigjohnsonblog: Sharp 2nd inning for Tseng, 2 Ks, sets them down 1-2-3, taking care of Huck looking with a wicked breaking ball. #cubs @KCCougars

Tseng wasn't hit hard but ended up giving up two in the 5th before getting an inning-ending DP. His day is now done.

Bryant RBI single

I'm not 100% convinced he wouldn't fare better than Olt has if he was brought up today.

I'm 100% convinced he would.

Which means he would be the 3rd or 4th best hitter on the team.

There is no doubt he would. He's just getting his professional reps in.

Baez and Bryant are the third and fourth best hitters in the organization, at least.

If you mean respectively, I might switch the two there. Overall positional value tips the scale Javy's way, though.

baez is not one of the top five hitters in the organization today. he's still doing that thing where he forgets how to hit when he starts a new level. if you put him in chicago today he'd hit like .075 (but the only hits would be home runs, so that would be kind of cool).

Today? Sure. But after a week or two he'd hit 30 HRs the rest of the way.

LOL Baez will put up a line like .080/.120/.500 in his first 50 MLB PAs.
