Unsurprisingly, Almora is not in the Daytona lineup tonight.

Why is that unsurprising? It was a [expletive] bloody nose.

And nausea of some sort. Dude had to leave the game. How is that not unsurprising?

Very good outing so far for Tseng. 5 shutout, 5 h, 6 K's. Granted, it's early to get too high or too low, but a shutout with those type of K numbers sure looks fascinating, so will be curious how the stuff looked.

Hard to be upset with an 11/0 K/BB ratio in the first 10 innings

Friend was at Kane games in Bowling Green, got to first game in the 4th, and watched part of second. So he saw Tseng, Blackburn, and Godfrey, as well as Bowing Green lefty Snell who'd been a sandwich 1st rounder a couple years ago and is a milb top-10 guy for Tampa.

Said Tseng and Blackburn both worked at 88-89, Godfrey and Snell were up to 91-93. Said T+B actually looked much alike, build and pitching, although he said Blackburn was a super quick worker. Said it was super cold, and wondered if it might be a slow gun.

Blackburn always says he doesn't throw hard. And I'd hope they'd not try to throw too hard on an icy night where your arm can get hurt. I think it's Johnson's program to work at a controlled velocity where movement and strike-throwing is maximized, and where you can throw a handful of mph faster as a change up once in a while. So I'm not sure 88-89 on an icy night is inconsistent with having touched 95 a couple of times on a warm and psyched-up night in Boise.

Baez suffered the injury at Memphis while fielding ground balls during batting practice.

"I jumped a little bit to throw the ball and when I landed, it was kind of like a hole or something (there)," Baez said.

The 21-year-old said after rolling the ankle, he braced for the worst.

...

Despite being eligible to come off the disabled list this Friday, Pevey said Baez could be out five to seven days.

Baez had been dealing with back issues before the team went to Memphis, but he said Tuesday those have dissipated.

"It's great," Baez said.

He added that he expects big things upon his return.

"I'll be more patient (at the plate) when I come back," Baez said.

Arizona Phil[/url]"]19-year old 6-7 Dominican RHP Jeferson Mejia made his U. S. game debut today (he was at Instructs last fall but didn't pitch in any games), and he struggled with his control over his 1.2 IP stint (40 pitches - only 17 strikes). He allowed two runs on two hits (both singles), three walks and WP, and was unable to complete his second inning of work, but he also struck out three (all three swinging).

Remember, Jefferson Mejia was in that nasty car accident in the Dominican, along with Frandy de la Rosa and Kevin Encarnacion.

Eloy Jimenez went 0/4, Gleyber Torres went 0/2 and Ricardo Marcano (got a $400,000 bonus in 2011) went 1/3.
