Man, I'm bummed . . . but maybe not as much as I would have expected. Think: (1) lost a great, close series in overtime (coin-flip) to really good team; (2) the Hawks have seemingly always won these games, guess a loss was due; (3) 2010, 2013.

I was annoyed by the water bottle thing too, but there's not a chance in a billion years they call that penalty at that point in the game.

The two best teams in the NHL played to a virtual draw. Someone had to lose.

So how long into his contract will Crawford remain the primary goalie for the Blackhawks?

I think in a rage fit in Game 3 or 4 I compared him to M.A. Fleury. Could be a similar situation.

I just don't see why they had to give him six years. Was anyone else going to give him that contract? Not likely.

That said, the truly standout goalies in the league are few and far between. Look at Quick, one of those guys. We torched him. Crow is definitely in that next group right below the elite guys.

Quick is bad, too

Yeah, IMO he's a mediocre goaltender with 2 great playoffs. I am not sure how advanced stats work for goalies, but to me a .915 career save percentage is nothing special. For comparison purposes, Crawfords is .914 and Crawford's has been better in each of the last 2 seasons.

In the playoffs, Crawford is at .920, Quick .922.

This is why I hate giving a big/long contract for the goalie position in general, let alone Crawford in particular. At $6m he can no longer just be a solid piece to fill a spot, but rather a guy who has a significant positive influence.

If you want Crawford gone, who do you replace him with?

At this point I don't think that is a possibility.

To me, he's like Soriano. He's a guy that is a really strong player, at times dominant, but is signed for too long at too much money. And people will whine about him, and wish him gone, but there's no realistic possibility of that happening, until at the very least, a lot closer to the end of his contract. Also, he's not half as bad as the haters will insist he is.

Except in this case they are operating under a salary cap and every dollar he gets that is above the value he provides a direct negative effect on the team.

Yeah, the analogy only stretches so far.

I'm not saying he's worth it either, I just don't know who is a viable option. The only name I hear from a friend is Niemi, and I think that would be a huge mistake. Crawford is at least better then him IMO

He's absolutely right about Regin.

Here's my question, which is more from my bad memory and too much hockey watched in the last five years -- in the Q era, what players have been brought in mid-season and actually put to good use and excelled under Q down the stretch?

so the timeline is bears, because none of the rest will work out.

You think the Bears are going to the Super Bowl!?

out of the other two pro teams I root for, the Bears are the only one I have any confidence in being able to make a run.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this on the broadcast or in this thread. I didn't see quick throw the bottle but I thought it was odd the bottle was on the middle of the ice right before the face off. Now we know why. For reference this was in OT after the Kings iced it during a really long shift for their top line. This bought them an extra 15 seconds or so. Can you give a penalty for this??

Did I just imagine this, but was Quick trying to give the water bottle to the official to try to smooth over a part of the ice that had a chunk missing?

Yes that's what he was doing but it was already fixed by then. He took the opportunity to cause further delay, no doubt.

I'm having a hard time understanding how that delay helped out the kings anymore then the hawks tho

The Kings had just iced the puck after a long shift, and thus had to keep tired players on the ice. The Hawks could change at will.

This. And the face off was in the Kings defensive zone
