The Blackhawks are a homegrown team. The kids get worked into the lineup one way or the others. Maybe the beat writers don't speak French

The homegrown core all predates Q.

Depends if you consider any of Saad, Leddy, Shaw, and Craw to be part of the core.

In general, Q doesn't let young guys play through any growing pains. He has a very short leash with young guys, while he will let veterans struggle out there to work through things. It's not a hard and fast rule, and you can find times where that's not the case.

I disagree that it happens "in general". At best/worst its a 50-50 proposition.

Q is no different, really, than any old school coach in any sport. He's paid to win games which he's done, a lot.

He has a system and he plays guys that buy into that system and do what they're supposed to do/ be there they need to be defensively. Unless you're Patrick Kane in which case whatever you bring defensively is a bonus.

He actually has shown patience for young players that fit what he wants on the ice (Shaw, Saad). He's also let some players develop over time by working them in (Bickell, Kruger, Frolik, Nordstrom, Brouwer). The problem for a young guy is that they are behind a lot of talented players and also Bollig. I chalk Bollig up to what I like to call the LaRussa syndrome where a coach thinks that he can prove he's brilliant by making a dumb move work.
