His stuff has been so flat.

Yep. And getting too much of the plate.

If this season is anything like the previous two, the cubs are done scoring.

Hopefully it's not.

This season we battle back and lose late.

Carpenter's BABIP for his career is well clear of .350. What the eff

School me: What exactly is BABIP?

A player's batting average when he doesn't strike out or hit a HR, basically.

batting average on balls in play

In case that's not specific enough, BA outside of strikeouts and homers.

The average BABIP is usually around .300 depending on the season (last year it was exactly .300). BABIP figures significantly higher or lower than that usually mean someone has been very unlucky or lucky, though player speed, line drive percentage and other stuff is also a factor.

So it basically means that he does not pop up too frequently...right?

he either has an obscene LD% (line drive percentage) or he's really lucky

I honestly don't now how he maintains a K/9 between 6 and 7 for most of his career. Now, he's giving up hits with the BBs and with his lack of control and put-away pitch, his productivity can't take it.

Judging from the naked eye, he hits more solid LDs consistently than I recall anyone else. He has a solid command of the strike zone too.

Thanks...curious: which Cub has the best BABIT? (my guess would be Riz)

Rizzo was notorious last year for having an unusually low BABIP and lots of arguments resulted in whether he was unlucky or it was something about the way he hit.

Lake has had an obscenely high BABIP since he hit the majors.

His velocity is also down this year. He's just a 31-year-old pitcher who didn't have a lot of room for error and his stuff is now attriting.

Yep. Velocity in the tank. I doubt we ever get a season ERA under 4.50 outta him during this contract.

Bonifacio .500. Last year Castillo led all qualifiers with a .347 BABIP. The Cubs as a team were dead last in BABIP in 2013

God, the Cubs are just playing stupid [expletive] baseball! This fundamental base running [expletive] we are talking here. All the while taking an AB away from Rizzo. Wtf.

Jackson will be in the pen if he's still on the team in 2016.

I hope he's not in the team in 2015.
