Who does Mizzou target this late in the game?

Goodman suggested they'd be in on LA Tech, Winthrop, Dayton(Archie Miller), and yes, Painter again. Ben Howland might be a possibility, I dunno.

Is Marshall at all an option? You have a ton of money.

The Miller hire would be a good one, I really like that coaching tree.

Jason King had a tweet suggesting that Mizzou could actually be the team to pull him away if they pulled out a huge offer, but I don't have any idea why that would be. Mizzou basketball is a pretty good gig, but it's not so great that Marshall would be floored by the opportunity, and he has no ties that I'm aware of to the state or school.

AJ Hammons will be back at Purdue. Maybe we won't finish last next year.

Glad to hear it. It was also the best decision for himself. I don't know what next year's class looks like, but I have to think he stands out better next year compared to this year.

Next year has three top centers.

I think staying another year is the difference between the late 1st round as opposed to the mid to late 2nd round this year. He's not going to be a lottery pick unless he really improves. He should turn into a useful NBA player though.

The thing that doesn't add up to me is Haith deciding he'd have to take that job this year. Even if they were bad next year and he got fired, does he think he wouldn't be able to land a job of Tulsa's caliber and pay scale after that? It seems like he must be really miserable to just forfeit 500k+ to leave now.

Leverage. Bruce Weber still wound up with the KSU job after getting fired, but he almost certainly would've received a better contract if he jumped for OU when Kruger did(If they were actually interested in him)

Does Haith only care about cash? Or has college hoops evolved to the point that mid-major jobs are equally attractive so long as they pay?

I agree he is smart to stay.

I think he sees the writing on the wall at Mizzou. Not much returning and he might already be on the hot seat. Got while the getting was good.

Pretty much this. I think he wanted out on his terms. Once Clarkson and Brown declared, he knew he'd be going into next season with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores, Deuce Bello and Cam Biedschied. Unless Williams, Clark, Jones, Gant and Wright turn into studs over the next six months, they probably win 15 games. Now I wouldn't be surprised if there's a mass exodus and they win 10 games.

People were so pissed about the Painter bait-and-switch that Haith had to get to the Final Four to get any sort of approval. He paid for Mike Anderson's sins by patching up last season's roster with transfers, saving Missouri from a 15-win season. Somehow this angered people, who I've seen argue passionately that Haith should have had a bunch of top recruits lined up from the start. But again, this is a fan base with some people who delude themselves into thinking Missouri is a level below the blue bloods. Missouri made its first tournament in 1976.

Haith's reportedly getting 1.85 million from Tulsa, so that eliminates any of the confusion on my part. He also told Alden via text that he was taking the job, which will be fun media fodder.

Is this a bigger shock than McDermott leaving Iowa State for Creighton?

Tulsa is joining the AAC this season...

...which means the AAC will consist of Cincy, UConn, Memphis, SMU, Temple, South Florida, UCF, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane and East Carolina.

Brutal, but still arguably as strong as the SEC.

I apologize on behalf of ECU. Most of the students here are UNC, Duke, or NC State fans (to a lesser degree) come November. It's like most don't even acknowledge the basketball program.

Also Iowa State wasn't ever any good under McDermott and he probably would have been fired fairly soon.

mcdermott was probably a year away from being fired, which is why people say there was never any talk of doug coming to iowa st.

this.

also, there were doubts whether Doug was good enough of an athlete to play high major basketball. obviously, things worked out quite well for both creighton and iowa state.

The top of Missouri's wish list includes Gregg Marshall, Kim Anderson and Matt Painter.

I have no idea why Anderson should be given serious consideration. If he's hired and they do well I'll gladly eat my words, but this seems like something to soothe the cranky white men.
